finally found where the damn water is coming from. The headliner and edges of the headliner are all dry but there's a small amount of water in the rear storage places behind the seats looks like it was dripping down from above. Could this still be third brake light or could it be the rear window itself?

Have you checked your third brake light? Could be everything else dried and that was all that was left? Just spitballing ideas

OK I pulled the plastic thingies off the sides I managed to get my hand underneath the carpet that’s wet on top but everything underneath is completely dry so now I am really confused.

Check under the car to see if there are any rubber grommets missing around that area.

have you pulled off the back storage? ive read that sometimes the vents can be misaligned and leak from there. ive personally had the 3rd brake light leak on mine.

Ok its not back storage also it is damp again after I dried it out yesterday. Its only in the rear passenger footwell areas under the rubber mat. No rain either.

Sunroof drain tubes could be clogged but I'd still bet on 3rd brake light. Pull out your rear seat pillar mounted seat belts and see if they're damp. Water could be coming in around light, running across headliner and traveling down the rear pillars.

Nope everything is dry except carpet.

I’m back to looking at the rear doors. After it rained the bottom of each door was soaked while the front doors were dry.

no kids either so its not like I have little brats who could’ve spilled something.

Check the rubber gasket that seals the door. I had the one on the driver side sorta get curled over on itself and the rear floor area was soaked. Once I "fluffed" up the rubber seal, no more issues.

Not sure how both sides would be wet from that, but wicking through the carpet means you could have water travelling around from it's point of entry. I'd get some Damp Rid in there ASAP though.

Have you pulled the carpet? When you say bottom of rear doors. Where do you mean exactly? Pics are always helpful.

Hmm!! On my 2015 there is seal on the door and one on the body. If the 2016 is the same I can’t see water splashing on the door from the outside getting past both those seals. Plus on the body side there is a good 1/2” lip on the body side. Now I’m intrigued with this issue.
