The smell that equates to a dirty sock led me to find a soaking wet drivers side carpet.
I did the best to clean it.
Also, water was shorting out the wires behind the instrument cluster because I had every idiot
light go on and off for a week. Air bag, traction control, seat belt, etc.
I also had the temp gauge, speedo, and tach stop working
Clearly water was shorting out the system somewhere.

This happened, coincidentally, after having a new windshield installed.
I brought back to the installer, and he insisted that it is 'NOT the windshield!"
So I climbed in, feet hanging over the headrest, head resting next to the break pedal.
I am skinny and agile, so I can do this...
With my wife pouring water on the corner of the windshield and cowl and location where the wiper arm connects, I can see water dripping in just to the left side(drivers side) of the steering column.
So I know why my floor was wet. Just don't know how or where the water is coming in.
I called the installer of the windshield again, he insists it is not the windshield, and thinks its where all the wires or the hood release comes thru the firewall.
I brought the truck to my mechanic. He could not find where the water was coming in, and he thinks its the windshield.

Any windshield installers here? Is it possible my windshield is leaking, or, has anyone else had this problem that can point me in the right direction?
Can the carpet be cleaned or am I looking at replacing it?

    Thanks

If you’re not happy with the install and if the insurance company paid for that I will go right to your insurance company and make that place reinstall the windshield

Sounds like the windshield guy did a poor job fitting the seal and glue around the edges of the glass. It's easy to mess it up if you're in a hurry.

Was this windshield guy recommended by your insurance company? If so, they need to help you get it done correctly somewhere else.

I avoid super cheap windshield places for this exact reason

Actually I took the truck to my cousin Vinny(yes, I have a cousin very, and yes were are Italians, lol).
It was his Dad's business for about 50 years. And all they do is auto glass and he has been working for his dad forever.
That said, he's a cheap prick and he is being a bit of an asswipe.
I had a new alternator(and belt) installed thinking it was the alternating going. Truck has over 255,000 miles!(not a typo).
That was $1000.00. I paid another $600.00 for the investigation of the leak, which was not found.

And I now have smelly truck. A truck that would not hesitate to eat a french floor off the floor or engine.
I wouldn't think twice about dragging his butt to court if I found out it is a leaking windshield.
I gave him the opportunity to investigate and repair it. He told that it was not his problem
Calling my insurance company may be the way to go. I was thinking about bringing the truck to another guy a know who does good work.

That said. after 255k, I have never had a single problem with this truck. I maintain it with an open checkbook.
I like doing my own maintenance when I can.

    These Taco's are awesome!
My first was a 2008, same model and color, with over 250K when I got t-boned by an illegal alien with no drivers license. Good thing a had put the lift in or my wife would have been seriously injured or dead!

I'll bet it's the new windshield. Many of them leak.

We had one of those at work. A late model Tacoma with a poorly installed (and wavy as hell) aftermarket windshield. And yes, it leaked and drenched the wiring just like yours. The insurance company had to pay over $5,000 for a new main wiring harness plus a new windshield. Oddly enough, they paid us (a Toyota dealership) to replace the wiring, then paid the same idiots who screwed up the first windshield to put another wavy aftermarket one it. Words fail me. Watch out for massive and expensive electrical problems down the road.

Windshield, rear window replacement sucks. Had my 08 done shop was good cleaned up some rust and a few scratches from removal.
They brought me out so I could see before new install.
The wife’s suby had a hatch window replaced and it rusted bad around window. Hackers!! Had to replace hatch easier than fixing it.

Mold is an easy - and inexpensive - fix compared to the main wiring harness.

Sorry to hear that, but as I mentioned earlier, not totally surprised. I will offer one big reason insurance companies are totaling vehicles that most folks don't think would qualify. That reason is that a Tacoma in half way decent shape is worth more as parts than as a whole truck. Sad but true. Good luck with your search!
