I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and am experiencing a leak that’s coming from the roof of my truck and dripping onto my rear passenger seat basically where the headrest is. The headliner is not wet where it is dripping from. It seems to be coming from the seal that’s there. I’ve seen a lot of people say this is due to the third brake light but from what I can see all of those threads are for 3rd gens, not 2nd gens. I’m kind of stumped as to what it is. I took the outside plastic housing of the third brake light on the cab off and checked the seal and put a thin bead of clear silicone on it. I didn’t know how to remove the piece that’s actually attached to the cab itself. I thought it all came off together. Was wondering if anyone else has/had this issue and can point me in the right direction.

Most likely coming from the third brake light. Pull it off and reseal it.

Yeah I just looked into it more like I should have in the first place and didn’t realize that I had to pry that second part of the third brake light off. I’ll try that when I have time and if nothing happens from that I’ll report back.

Does your truck have the satellite radio antenna?
    If so, maybe check there.

Yeah it does. Not sure how that even comes apart. I would assume the headliner would have to be dropped.

I honestly don’t know. Never had the headliner out of mine.
I suppose it depends on what the material is made of and how water resistant it is.
Water usually runs down slope and with the path of least resistance.

    Water leaks can be tricky.
I’ve chased enough in houses to know it’s not always “simple” to find.

Yeah my old GMC had a similar problem but it was with the sunroof and it dawned on me that the headliner never stained in that. I think the real trick here would be to pull the headliner and check for stains on the top of it. But I’m gonna seal the brake light first and then go that route. Thanks.

Sorry to revive an old post, but I just started experiencing the same issue except leaking onto the rear driver’s side seat. Did it end up being your 3rd brake light?

No. I still to this day haven’t had it fixed. I’ve resealed the third brake light and the issue still exists. I’m 95% sure my rear window needs to be removed and resealed. I was supposed to have it done but haven’t had the time to go do it.
