Sure, you can mod the heck out of a fibreglass canopy in an attempt to make it leak proof. I'm of the opinion that shouldn't be necessary when you blow $4400 (local Pesos, best price) on a canopy, and it won't fix the leaks in all windows, the inconsistent gaps between the window frame and the fibreglass, etc. A friend of mine had a similarly equipped ARE canopy and had all of the same problems.

Heh. You're in Alabama... you don't know what "rain" means. :) Come visit British Columbia for a few winter months. If you put down a tarp in my old Leer, you could use the bed as an indoor pool after a week of being parked outdoors. But I'm glad your Leer works for your needs.

I've got an AluCab now and it is easily 10x the product my Leer was (for the same cost). Very happy with it.

    Reserected from the dead.
    It's not a boat.

There is a vacuum in the cargo area when driving if the drain holes plug up. Any water will gain entry unless the cap is sealed completely.

I'm not sure I would want that when hauling the dogs. I don't know what negative air pressure does to dogs, but I would think it would make them uncomfortable. I'm okey with a small amount of water intrusion.

I would have bought a van if I demanded zero water intrusion.

Respectfully, I disagree. I paid $2400 for my Snugtop Rebel installed. I ordered it with pet screens, rack rails, and other goodies you can see for yourself in the pictures below. It uses a proper automotive seal and stays dry in virtually all weather. Today was a perfect example as we have had flooding all day. I thought it would be fun to defend my claim with a few pictures.

Below, you'll see a screenshot of the rainfall in the last 24 hours in my location, followed by 2 pics of the bed of my truck as it sits right this minute. I did no modification to the truck or shell, other than a small amount of butyl putty in the gaps on the front bulkhead. I've done quite a bit of driving in the storms today, and my truck has been parked outdoors for all of the last 24 hours. Not one drop inside the bed and zero fogging on the inside of the windows. I've had the cap installed for over 2 years. During hunting season, I regularly hose it out with soap and water but other than that, it's dry as a bone!

You're wasting your time arguing with here4cake, he likes his Alu-cab and everything else is junk. Like he said we don't know what rain is like in the south. Oh and by the way my Leer 100xq was $2200.00 installed not $4000.00. Maybe he should move down here to the Alabama desert and save money on camper shells.

    I dont think so...

I spent the last year getting snug top to fix the leaks in our canopy. Total pain in the ass and will never buy another fiberglass canopy! You got lucky! Ours leaked from the roof rack rails, side windows, back window, down both bed sides, and the front corners. It got "fixed" a few times from dealer then they gave up and sent it back to snugtop for months.
It still leaks a little but I am done trying to get these idiots to fix their own crap!

I have a cheap ass 400$ 18 year old aluminum farm truck canopy that has never leaked a drop on 2 different trucks one of which it doesnt even fit that great! I had shit luck with a Leer which is why I got the cheapo 400$ canopy. Decided to try snugtop this go around and surprise surprise...they suck too!

I honestly had zero expectation of it keeping water out of the back of the truck and that wasn't really why I bought a cap. I have been amazed by how well it does. Which model did you get?

So, you have a leak and that means all fiberglass canopies are junk? Hilarious. Just read a few threads and you will realize that all Tacomas are complete junk too. LOL

Thanks but we really don't need anymore right now, it has been an exceptionally wet spring. Our friend from BC needs to pay us a visit down here somewhere around Hurricane Season in September to see if it meets his definition of what " Rain Is".

Praying this season isn’t a repeat of last. Harvey was a BITCH! May be the only time I’ve had any water under the camper shell but not much you can do when it’s coming sideways and hitting the tailgate.

I’d really like to know what you did,or who your Installer was, so I can get some pointers. I have a new shell leaks like the water is made to go inside. Yeah I thought ARE sent a specific gasket which was used in mine..... it obviously ain’t working.

Did they actually use the gasket kit? Or use silicone? A combination of the two should be enough.

Interesting thread. I've had my leer since 2014 and have had a small leak from the corner seal for a while. It's so insignificant that I've never bothered to fix it but I may give that sealant along the bed caps a try. The dealer that installed it doubled up the foam there and it eliminated most of the issues for the for the first few years. They installed a tailgate seal too which really worked phenomenally, so might replace that while I'm relining the bedsides

Toyota should be providing this. I don’t understand why the gaps are even there at that size.

So...If the shell is square and sealed correctly...the windows/hatch seals are good...the only real areas of concern are the tailgate and forward corners on the Gen 3's.

    Is that a correct statement?

I just gave up on the ever leaking POS and I’m about to the point of selling my shell. I’ve taken it back a few times to get it resealed, I’ve used a few tubes of silicone on it myself, nothing stops it, just slows it down.
