Just found this thread since we've been getting some rain here in San Diego. When I purchased my truck last year, I also purchased the Leer 100XR. Everything is great on it except for the leak coming through the main access window above the tailgate. I can't really determine where exactly it is coming from, but I'm assuming from the top since the glass sticks out about a half inch from the actual shell. With the rain also brought the attention that my light has stopped working. Anybody else have that issue?

If you are not sure, wait till it dries out and then use a hose to spray around where you think it may be leaking. If you can climb inside and have someone else do it that would be even better. That should help you pin point it. As far as the light, are you talking about the third break light or an interior light? Either could be from water intrusion or just loose wiring.

Epic! It’s coming from the top somewhere but I can’t figure it out! Maybe it’s coming from the light housing? And maybe that’s why the light went out? Lol good advice! I’ll give it a go!

Remove the third brake light and seal it with black RTV. Mine did the same..

I second this.. same thing the gasket in mine was not in the right place to actually seal.. thin line of silicone on both sides of gasket did the trick..

The problem where mine leaked is the upper corners of the bed, closest to the cab, Toyota put some big holes there’s for whatever reason, I’ve tried to get those 100% sealed it’s impossible without a permanent solution like chalking or something which I’m not into .I had to take my truck back a couple times to the installer cause the bed rails leaked and They put a “triple bulb” in and the rails don’t leak anymore...thankfully I live in the desert and we don’t see a ton of rain

I have a ARE MX canopy

That’s great but that tape melted right off in the 110+ degree temps where I live...had that solution didn’t last

I just bought a new Tacoma (first) and bought a brand new ARE cap. After getting it on I noticed there was water in the bed. Very little. Chalked it up to leftover water from before the cap. Cleaned it all up. After another heavy rainstorm, I noticed water again. I was pretty bummed since everything was new and professionally installed.

I noticed it wasn’t coming in where the cap meets the bed, but underneath. I looked at the installers work, and they did a pretty good job with all the sealer stuff. (From what I can see, again first cap on a truck). Someone in this thread said wait until daylight and look for light. That’s exactly what I did, and there it was. A small crack under the top rails.

I went to Lowe’s and autozone and picked up caulk and ribbon sealer. I caulked wherever I could see light and then put the ribbon sealer over it. From what I can tell, it’s the same stuff the installers used. I can no longer see light. No rain in the forecast, so time will tell.

Didn’t think anything of it when the installer said Toyota’s are tough to keep dry.

I’ve attached some pics of the front corners of the bed, where I sealed myself. Will keep you posted on outcome

I know this thread is old but after looking at how clean this is my wallet is crying for the $75 I spent to have a professional install mine.

Dude, this is exactly what I've been looking for. I have an RLD Camper and it's been driving me nuts trying to find out where the leak is. It's been raining like crazy here in Cali recently and I know the inside of my truck is getting wet. Thanks for the tip!

even if you seal those cracks up, there's so much flex in the bed area i wouldn't be surprised if some gets in anyway

Funny how this thread get resurrected years later once California gets slammed with rain-- chill out the rest of you, we get it, "California hasn't seen rain like ~insert state of residence~ gets".

I built a simple platform during the holidays and am only now seeing that my RSI Smartcap is leaking at the seam the connects the rear hatch to the main section of the shell. Before the carpeted platform, I also didnt really care so much.... and definitely dont expect it to be 100% water tight, but this developed a little puddle and fogged up the glass once the sun came out. Pretty bummed, I feel like adding silicone will not look as clean as I want, but most likely will just do it.
