I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, it is currently in the shop and about to he finish with a fix of a hose that goes from the thermostat housing to the firewall, and I have been told it is a common issue due to the fact it sits under the exhaust manifold. Did you guys replace it with a metal or rubber hose after it broke?

    Curious what this hose serves?

    4.0 or 2.7?

It drains the radiator really quick if not taken care of. It is connected to the thermostat housing.

I'm assuming you mean the coolant bypass pipe, it's a pretty common issue because the factory one is plastic.
It runs under the intake manifold not the exhaust manifold.
    There are metal replacements available.

So the mechanic is correct with it being an issue.
