Every time we get a good rain the next day my truck has this musty smell. The carpet in the rear on the driver side will sometimes be slightly wet, but never a full puddle or anything. I suspected the 3rd brake light or the back glass itself. I took it to an autoglass shop and they said they found a small hole in the seal for the back glass. They patched it up but the problem is still on going. Anyone else had issues like this? What else can I try other than removing the back glass and replacing the entire seal and possibly switching to a solid back glass rather than sliding?

There was a fluke run from the factory (on 2nd gens) on the back glasses where the encapsulation wasn't properly primed so the urethane that held the glass in place never bonded to the glass assembly. Sounds like they need to R&I the glass making sure to prime the assembly as well as the body. Try pushing on the inside frame of the glass while looking outside and see if it has any give.

Seems like instead of cutting the rubber you could just stick something under there to shim it out?

I checked those drain holes and poured water into the seal at the middle-back pane. The hole it was apparently coming from before was in the top corner of the glass on the drivers side. Once it was filled I didn't have any issues for a couple of weeks but now its back. I'm guessing it just needs to be completely resealed instead of little band aids here and there. Any idea how much something like this would cost?

The cost will vary widely depending on the glass shop that is doing the work. Note that the glass is also held in by nuts on the inside.

I'd spray more water around the 3rd brake light first, it's kind of a cheesy foam seal.

when i first got my truck i started to get water into the back of the vehicle and turns out it was an improper seal where they mated 2 sheets together. its further down on below the window. you'll have to remove the back panels behind the seat to see it but do that and run water in that area and see. my truck needed to go to the bodyshop for the repair b/c the bed has to come off the truck and they have to remove the factory bond and re-apply a new one. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'll check this out and see what I can find. I definitely had one leak at the top drivers side corner of the back glass. Not sure if I'll find more or if the guys that "fixed" the first leak were just not as thorough as they should've been.

This is the same thing that was wrong with my truck. The bed was taken off and the seam was resealed.
Hasn't leaked since, or if it has, it hasn't gotten smelly yet. It's just another thing on the long list of bullsh*t things that shouldn't happen.

Just curious were you still under warranty when yours was replaced? My truck is not anymore and that seems like it could be an expensive fix.

my truck was a 2 months old so yes it was covered but it was a $3500 repair through the body shop. i work at a dealer and
processed the warranty claim for it so i know what it cost....not cheap.

Mine was just out of warranty. They covered the cost though. It certainly wasn't $3500 worth work. They pulled the bed and put some seam sealer in there. It probably wasn't the right way to fix it but I wasn't going to pull the bed again to weld it up. It's probably a rusty mess now. I'm sure you and a buddy could pull the bed in a matter of hours. Seal it up and be done. I imagine it would be expensive to pay somebody else to do it, maybe a grand. But, I really don't know. Good luck.

^^thats exactly how mine looked. and yeah im sure it could be done for cheaper but my truck was 2 months old and i work here so the body shop owner took care of me. he went the extra step to ensure it wouldnt happen again. basically removed all the sealant along that wall and resealed it with the stuff they use.

That kind of what I figured. I need to make some friends at the dealer... ;) I'm not surprised it's happening to more than one truck. I bet a robot was responsible for the action and the code wasn't written right. It costs too much to fix the trucks that already went down the line. That is my second YouTube video, ever. I hope everyone enjoys it! :D Now I'm supposed to tell you to "like" and "subscribe". It's the best 9 seconds of entertainment you all have ever seen.

Great video thanks! I'm going to do this and see if mine is leaking here too. I thought I had it fixed as it was leaking from the top corner of the glass and I had that resealed but I still have the musty smell after a good rain.. Starting to worry that the carpet might have mold in it and need to be replaced as well..

I have a 2012 access cab and after a good rain, I noticed that my passenger side headrest in the back is soaking wet. I've already replaced the 3rd brake light foam seal with a new one but it happened again after the last rainstorm we had here in S.C. If the seal at the bottom of the cab (like the one above) is leaking how in the world is it getting the head rest wet. Any ideas?
