went to change my oil yesterday and while my skid plate was off i noticed this pink stuff that has ran down (and dried) the front of the engine from behind that front plastic cover with the 3.4 sticker on it. i'm assuming its the water pump leaking. not sure if there are any freeze plugs back there. also im not sure about toyota warranties. is this something that could possibly be covered? truck has 33k on it. what do you guys think? thanks in advance!

Yes it happens. Mine was leaking through weaphole at 58000. Just make sure you replace it with a quality product, at the same time, because the time belt has to come off look at it also

The water pump might still be functioning properly....

I'm going to guess...the leak is due to the gasket material that seals the pump to the block.

That's how mine started leaking. This is what it looks like with the water pump is OFF the block. I had a 96 and 85K miles. In your case - it's not necessarily the mileage...it's the AGE.

You should take care of that as soon as you can. Or else it'll get worse and you'll have to keep topping off you resevoir tank to keep it full.

Your warrenty will cover it, as long as it still falls under the Miles/years. Im pretty sure the factory warrenty is 6 year 30k, so unless youve got an extended warrenty or bought the truck used from a dealer that certified it you might be payin for a 70-100$ pump and about 1-3 hours of labor.

the warranty on the water pump is 5 years 60k miles from the date of first purchased from toyota. If its still under warranty take it to the dealership and ask the advisor nicely if they'll throw on a new t-belt and all the drive belts if you buy the parts from them( they have to take them off anyways), it will save you a lot of money in the near future

powertrain is 5yr, 60k. so it should be a warranty issue. hopefully the dealership wont try to weasel their way out.

I totally agree with Trauma85's idea.....

The dealership gets the "Warranty" work, plus the extras and a happy "Repeat" customer if handled properly...
You get trained Toyo Techs, parts and another "Warranty".....

Good luck and heres hoping your dealer actually "WANTS" to keep you coming back ;)

The dealer wont try to weasel out at all ! toyota pays the dealership for labor/parts.

Took the taco to the dealership today and the new water pump will be covered under warranty. i didn't think it was still under warranty so that was a big relief hearing it was. I also took your advice on talking them into putting new belts since they have to come off anyway (thanks cjimenRR.)
