I was wondering when is a good time to replace the water pump and timing belt on my 01’ 2RZFE? Has 152k miles...
    I know it’s a decent job to take on.-Thanks

Think the 2rz uses a timing chain, doesn't need replacing. As for the water pump, think it's an 80,000 service interval so you you'll have to do it twice to catch up.

On most engines with a timing belt the water pump is behind the timing belt and some are driven by the timing belt (like Hondas, but not Toyotas). So, people do both at the same time since they would need to remove the timing belt to change the water pump anyway.

The 2RZ and 3RZ have a timing chain and the water pump is relatively easy to change. You just need to remove the belts to get to it.

If you just do local driving you can wait until it starts leaking to change it. If you drive long distances or drive a lot or don't have a second car then you can proactively replace it so you don't get surprised and be forced to change it at a bad time.
