makes a whining nose, all other pulleys are good except alternator it has a bunch of resistance and is a bit crunchy in some spots. here’s a video
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GGKrh_pVPuE
this is my alternator, ^^^notice how it’s a bit crunchy and binds up at the end of the video

if you guys check my last post it is the noise my truck was making when the belt was spinning

    It definitely doesn't sound normal.
But you have to remember, the fan is bolted to the fan clutch.
So it's hard to "feel" how much resistance there really is.

I like to grab the fan and lift up/down on it. Then watch the pump shaft (pink part) for movement up and down.
This gives me a better idea of the state of the bearings.

    A tiny bit is normal.

The alternator is shot. Time for a new one. Don't go cheap on it.
I'd go with a Denso Reman at a minimum. I've used them, so far I've had good luck with them.

I can't say I've ever heard a water pump make that kind of noise.
But then again, 90% of my dealings with a water pump is after it leaks.
I typically lift up/down on them and give them a quick spin when doing belt swaps.

I don't do this stuff daily. I only do it to save myself, friends, and family money on repair bills.

RockAuto has them for $205.xx + $75 core
    That is for a 130A.
If your truck has the towing package, you want the 130A one.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
I have a local electrical shop that will rebuild my OE alternator on site, including R&R, for less than parts house bits.

I'd have them do it even if it was more.

Anyway, you might see if such a gem exists in your area.

    what year how many miles?

going to spin my alternator now…

Just did the water pump. Wasn’t too bad.
Only thing I’m dreading is the serpentine tensioner. I have a new one sitting in box.

supposedly it’s angled and held on from the front and side, requiring more component removal to replace. Such as get alternator and compressor out of the way to access. Ridiculous. Most car serp tensioner is a small piece held on the front of the motor with 2 bolts.

does anyone know if you can just replace the front bearing on the alternator? Other cars you can.
Though I understand that may not be enough. At this years and miles the alternator is old. So is its regulator and other bearings it may have deeper inside.

and if DENSO reman is as good as new?
Definitely cheaper than a higher amp alternator
    IMG_4455.jpg

whoops sorry highlighted the wrong 100amp one green instead of 130A towing

dealer shows price not much higher $230. Not sure if new or reman.
Sometimes dealers stop offering new and only reman. For example certain other brand old car axles.

no idea if age would be a factor vs miles
I imagine miles more since it’s driving that spins the bearing and not sitting parked

    google: "about seven years
Most alternators will last between 80,000 and 150,000 miles"
