Hello, I have a 2015 access cab Tacoma with the 2.7l engine. I am curious about the temp gage.
It is reading about halfway before it reaches normal temp but stops moving even though the temp is still increasing to around 190. Does this engine have the water temp sender and if so where is it located?
    Thanks, Herb

Yes the engine has a temp sender. The dash gauge is a "dumb" gauge. The needle registers in the middle indicating "normal" operating range. If the engine overheats the gauge will then move to "H" and a check engine light will illuminate. If you want actual engine temp readings, you can install a scan gauge or similar.

Yeah the temp gauges on pretty much all modern vehicles dont display temperatures in a linear fashion. IE. the Truck will show a linear movement from cold to center, the center of the temp gauge where the needle wont move represents a "normal" operating temperature of ~ 175-210*f then above the normal temperature range the needle will start to move again.

Thanks for the info. I guess it's acting normal! I would still like to know the locations of the sending units in case I need to get to them!
    Thanks!

Ok, thanks! I assume the sensor is behind the runners. Does it signal the ecu and gauge or is there another for the gauge?

I believe the PCM reports the temperature to the gauge via the CAN network. If you have the correct scan tool you can "sweep" the gauges to verify their operation.

Ok, that clears thing up. I'm getting too old for this high tech stuff. I like the old school! Lol
