Here is a bit better introduction now that I have some time. I have been a devoted fan of Cummins for many years. I don't care one way or the other about the Dodge body sitting on top of it. I have owned a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500, Quad Cab, Long Bed, 4x4 for 21 years and almost 300k miles so far. A while back it started to cost me more than I wanted to spend in repairs so a bought a 2012 of the same thing (almost). It was nice at first, but the decision did not hold up to scrutiny. Why have two of the same thing?? Especially at 14MPG for the 2012.

I listened to a friend who has been a long time Toyota fan, and now own a 2021 Tacoma 4x4 Offroad Sport, Double Cab, Long Bed. Yes, a long bed. I have a 12ft kayak that I want to take to the lake now and again so six feet of bed is better than five. I don't offroad much at all, but am hoping to do more now that I have a vehicle that might actually manage it. Cummins does well pulling, but tends to sink rapidly in sand or mud.

I wanted an offroad but could not find one in a long bed. The sport is growing on me. It is a bit more zippy than my Dodge maybe? It does not seem to have any balls in the face of a wind or hill (even a little dinky one), however, unless you are mashing that pedal. I will have to get used to that. or fix it. Also, in the big truck, I can sit straight up and down. In the Tacoma, I am reclining.

I am not sure about what mods to do or not yet. I did already do the blackout kit. It was cheap and easy. Next is a constant hot charging port which is in work. It is in the shop right now getting PPF and ceramic coating on it. I know that at some point I will want to put some kind of a lift on it but am not educated enough yet on that. It NEEDS a lift. And maybe bigger tires. Definitely the lift though. It just sits too close to the ground. It is going to be a fun toy, but it is also my daily driver so there are limits. Also, I dont want to kill my MPG five days a week just so I can offroad one day a week. At least so far. I think that if I truly get into offroading, I might just find me a ten year old tacoma with a bunch of miles on it and start modding that for TRUE OFFROAD.
