    I briefly looked at Wavespin's website...I'm curious if you could use a wavespin spool on a different reel. Is there anything else special about the reel itself other than the grooved spool design?

    Not that I'm aware of. I haven't had the spool off, so I don't know if it is compatible with anything else. I'm happy with it so far, though. Seems like a good solid reel.
