    What hasn't been modified?
It's gonna hang over your bed bad. Or get another rack built?

Yeah it would hang over for sure, with short beds its kind of tricky. Your only real options are over the cab, bed rack, or a shell

Yeah new rack. Or possibly add support from the back of the rack. Wasn't expecting to get a hard-shell so soon, but can't pass this up.

So, I'm not in the market for a RTT, I'm perfectly happy with my new soft shell Tepui. However, I'm curious what the big benefits of a hard shell tent are. (Easier setup and tear down? Weather resistance?) If I had a 4Runner or FJ I could easily see the benefit since it's much more aerodynamic than a giant towering rectangular body bag on the roof. So for builds like yours, it makes a lot of sense because the tent is on the roof/topper. Just an honest question about the benefits (especially on pickups), definitely not trying to hate or thread jack.

On another note, a massive round of applause for doing many people a big favor offering these tents at such a great price. Good on ya, they look really nice and super clean! I hope all this goes really well for ya.

Pluses are, super easy setup and take down, better performance in wet or snow weather. Easier to stow bedding.

Cons are: size, smaller that medium to large size RTTs, no annex options.

I personally think the pluses outweigh the cons.

Cool, that's what's awesome about multiple options; everyone gets to choose what suits their needs best! If I ever decided to go the topper/SUV route (not sure that'd happen for quite some time) I'd probably end up with a hard shell without much of doubt.

I can only see this working on a Tacoma if you have a cab height topper and racks on both. 7 feet long front to back is too long for even the DCLB.

Definitely wouldn't work on my Snugtop Highliner Sport. Roof isn't flat far enough (only have 4ft of tracks on top).

    I mean I could get a quote but I'm sure it's well over 1k

    Pretty much what Iggy said.

So when I first got a RTT it was a tepui autana ruggedized, so I definitely didn't cheap out on my first tent. My reasons for a RTT were simple, an easier/better camping solution while traveling off the beaten path, and it looks cool. Well my first outing the fabric got caught in the zipper cover and I broke the zipper. No big deal, it got replaced and ultimately my fault. I thought I could leave my sleeping bag and pillows inside, well that wasn't happening, maybe because of the addition of the anti condensation mat. At night with the wind, it sounds like a gorilla is beating on the tent. Putting away the tent was always a process with tucking in the fabric and stuck zippers and when it's cold in the morning or wet it sucked even more.

This is my experience. Was the tent bad? No it did its job how it was designed, was it easy or a provide a better experience? Absolutely not. It was always more trouble then it was worth, More often then not I decided to just sleep in the cab because it was easier.

In my own opinion if you have the room for one and only sleeping 2 people a hardshell tent is just better

You don't need two racks, nor do you need a rack that extends 7ft. If you connected anything between the cab/tower it would only cause binding when the bed flexes. Mine is only attached to the topper rack

If I was in your situation and wanted one I would either mount it over the topper anyways, or better yet mount it over the cab and let it over hang on the topper side. A rack over the cab will likely put it at the same height as a hi top shell so it would be a non issue. Where there's a will, there's a way
