Just mounted it on my prinsu cab rack with most of the overhang over the bed. There’s a few inches of overhang (need to measure but maybe 8” iirc) on the front past the front end of the cabrack. Haven’t noticed any blaring issues with the overhang past the windshield like that except maybe having to tighten the front straps a bit after a long drive. That was why i had most of the overhang over the back, i was worried about the wind but so far ok.

I do get paranoid at freeway speeds with it up there so i might consider trying to add one more pair of mounts to clamp the tent down to one more crossbar to alievate my worries. I figure it’s a work in progress right now.

It’s been mounted up there for 4 weeks or so and it’s my daily driver so easily 600-800 miles up there and hasn’t flown off yet.

Got it mounted up! This thing is great! Hopefully I can get more apportiate shots that aren’t in my driveway! I have it mounted to the stock rack with Yakima loadbars. It sits a little high for my liking but it’ll have to do till I can get the backbone system from Rhino rack!

I love staying in this thread and seeing how much everyone loves these tents.

I got a tent on this latest order and I only have 1 cinch strap per corner. Not sure if mine is special or not. I was a bit concerned about just 2 cinch straps holding things together but sounds like they do their job. I had visions of the wind catching the lip of the front on the highway and popping open. Pretty sure that would be real bad.

That was my worry at first along with "will my Yakima bars hold up", but a couple thousand highway miles under it (with Oklahoma crosswinds, 18 wheelers and rainstorms) and no problems.

I asked Chandler this question as well. He hasn't weighed it, but believes it's around 150#. He's installed it on his roof solo.

I also install mine on my roof solo and I would agree about 150#.

Woah I need to hit the gym. No way I was getting that thing up there... But I also had to install with awkward Yakima loan bars!

It's not lifting the whole weight though. For me I get it to the truck on my creeper then slide it up onto the roof rack with towels on the edge of the camper shell.

This one time Chandler said he put his 200+ pound camper shell for his Ram on by himself. I thought he was the strongest person alive......

Lies, he used that to boost morale when it came down to the day that camper had to come off and he needed my help lol.

It's tough to do it alone, especially if your rig is in the driveway and the tent is 50+ feet away. The easiest way to do it even with two people is to have the front side sitting on the edge of your rack, lift the back end (from the bottom), and push the tent over the rack. Adjust it when it's up there, but watch out for your arms, they can get crushed.....

camper shells are an absolute monster, I crushed a corner of mine trying to do it alone....won't do that again. The only EASY way is with 4 people in my opinion.

That is the exact process I follow for my tent though. Another plus for the hardshell over the softshells because I could never get my CVT on by myself.
