I drove at dusk along the Salmon river in Idaho for about 3-4 hours last night. Prime time for hatching bugs. There’s no food in the tent. I slept in the tent last night and the night before. Each night it’s been the same thing. I drive a few hours and open the tent to a mess of dead bugs.

I think it could be partly related to how the tent sits on my rack. I’ll take a pic later but there’s a fairing on my rack that lines up perfectly with the front of my tent. But still, it seems like this should not be happening.

Are all the windows/doors closed on the tent? Or are we looking at the elusive Chinese Mayfly that hitched a ride across the Pacific?

Yeah I could probably do that. I’d probably lean towards back to not have that air flow constantly hitting the bottom of the tent and trying to lift it.

Here’s a pic showing the base of the tent and how it matches up with my fairing. And the front of my truck looks like it went to war

 That’s insane! I have not had any issues with bugs entering my tent. If you think its where the aluminum meets the shell I would silicone it. It would look ghetto but you could put electical or duct tape over that area first just to see if that solves the problem before committing to something more permanent

Some stick on chrome from pep boys
Source a strip of self adhesive bulb seal to place inside the front seam of the tent roof and base. That would stop the bugs and any deflected rain off of your fairing.

good call. just put a strip of gorilla tape all around the front of the tent where the shell meets the aluminum. I'm nearly positive this is where it's coming from. Being in the tent during the day I can see a ton daylight coming through. I'll be driving a few more hours tonight, and probably along a river again so this should be a good test.

Let us know if that works as it would be something I would be looking to fix if mine ends up getting wet or collecting bugs. Mines on a bed rack so I think I’m safe from the bug assault

It might get into that particular one... I guess you weren't getting the message in my response, as I've already had it open an entire day in the rain along with other days closed...

I don't think how the tent is sitting makes a difference honestly. That gap between the trim and the body of the tent must be where it's coming from. My tent shows no light from the outside when shined there. Next time I open it again I'll check with a flashlight but I didn't see any while using it.

I think I agree with you. I could and will try when I get home to position it better on my rack but it really seems like this shouldn't be happening. If the tape works I'll hit it with silicon and hopefully that will be the end of it. Water getting in is definitely a bigger concern than bugs but this is how I noticed it since we haven't had rain here in maybe a month but we've got no shortage of bug life.

If one of you wouldn’t mind take a peek at your tent, let me know if you have this gasket and if it goes all the way around the rim of the tent. This pic is with the tent open and looking up under the top. I only have this gasket on the 4 corners, it’s not continuous. Seems like if it was continuous then I might not be having this issue.

So you are the only one to receive that shell, but when I had my wedge (same shell) I never had an issue with bugs getting inside my tent. Your shell uses an internal metal frame, and I am guessing that where the frame meets the shell doesn't have that good of a seal. Can you try putting seeing if a zip tie (or something similar) is able to pass through? That would be a good check. I wish I had my old tent to check myself and maybe go through some trouble shooting.

    You can has

    That isn't right

Yup you can store it inside
This is a good idea, I might go ahead and sew some on mine and see how it does. I think having one on each side of the door would really help out

    Shoe bag?

Can you post a picture of the holes you drilled, might help others out in the future if needed. That tent was much heavier than I anticipated hahaha

Yes it works, I can them them but I was trying to work out a better pricing deal on the kits. Hopefully with more tents out in the wild maybe it could be a possibility of getting a

A zip tie would easily go through the gap. Is my tent different from the others? I’m feeling like maybe I got a special one. And not the good kind of special. o_O:)

The tape kept most of the bugs out. That's definitely where they were coming from.
