What are the ways you go about selling guns? I’ve sold probably about 6 or 7 guns through Armslist without any problems but this go around, I’m trying to sell a rather expensive gun (CZ805) and would like to try another way. I came across this website (cashmyguns.com) and similar websites where they make you an offer and if you accept, they ship you a box and you ship it to them and collect your money. Anybody tried this method?

And because a thread is worthless without pics, here’s the gun:bananadance:

No, I don’t have any gun stores near me. But that is an option I didn’t think of

Is it hard to sell on there? I’ve bought plenty but only from certified sellers

not really, just be familiar with how to ship a gun and if you’re not shipping through an FFL dealer, make sure their dealer is willing to accept from you as an individual.

I'd be tempted to make you an offer, but I have some things I need to afford with that money like "noodles"

A family friend emptied her closet on me. Long story short the local gun shop bought them at 60% of listed retail.

I have used three services to date:
Gunbroker - success but you have to pay fees
GunsAmerica - success but not as well known as Gunbroker
Armslist - very successful and free

Don't bother with your local pawn shop. They will give you 50% of their cost. Some of your local gunshops will allow you to put it up on consignment.

Presentation is the key to success in all the online options. Good Pics and accurate description.

UPDATE: So I’ve been looking around at different options and actually sold it. Cashmyguns.com gave me a really low ball offer of $700. I got another quote from guns.com and they offered $1300, which is what I paid for it (minus the cerakote job) so I accepted it, that price includes shipping and fees too. I figured I’ll gladly accept that amount than try to sell it for maybe a $100 more on the street and risk an unsafe interaction, even though that’s rare. Process was easy, they shipped me a box and label to ship it back to them. Didn’t even have to get dressed!

Wise man once said to me, "Why sell a gun, when you can buy a gun?" Changed my life.

Nine months after the OP's post and 7 -months into the pandemic, this is an interesting question. I can only speak to my local area in Calif. which we know has its own procedural/other issues with transfers. A friend needed to empty the safe of about 10 hand/long guns due to health reasons and asked my help. The goal was to minimize the travel and time commitments due to treatments and lack of energy. All transactions needed to be through an FFL.

With the current run on firearms and operating restrictions, all the local FFL's (retail shops) are operating on an appointment only basis for PP transactions and are booked out 3-weeks. One appointment per each transaction and none willing to do back to back appointments. My friend would need to go to the FFL twice for each transaction. Now I get it, PP transfers are not money makers for an FFL and given what I have seen, staff is hardly speedy doing them (online data entry). The usually friendly and largest local FFL has under the current market turned less that friendly and cooperative. However and not surprisingly they were more than willing to consign, under an open ended time frame agreement, FOR 25%!!!!!

Given the health/time constraints, consignment was the best option for several of the pieces. With a consignment, if the piece sold on day 1, the DOJ and the State have a 30 day time window from consignment to make sure the piece is not on any stolen or what ever lists in addition to the 10 day wait which may run concurrently, before sale can be finalized. With consignment, the seller only needed to show up 1 time to perform the initial paperwork and wait for the "check to be in the mail". With consignment agreement, the shop officially takes your name off the piece so if you want "your" item back if it doesn't sell, you then have to pay the State fee.

I made arrangements for 3 to go to LEO connections. Other than wrangling 3 different schedules to one time frame, these proved to be the smoothest. We worked through an individual FFL who only does business with LEO clients. This individual was very accommodating and processed all 3 in back to back transactions in the most speedy and efficient manner I have ever seen. In fact, all three were processed in less time, using the same Calif. system, than I have ever seen one transaction completed at an over the counter FFL. A highly professional and smooth operation.

What my friend was trying to avoid and rightly, was for the disposition of the firearms under their estate. I can't imagine the time and cost for an attorney to deal with this. Most likely would have acceded the value of the guns and there were some very nice stuff there.

Thanks for the thread and info on cashmyguns.com. I sent the info on the gun I want to sell. If nothing else, its another data source for determining value.

So, the cashmyguns.com offer was $250 for a Kimber Micro 9 with Crimson Trace grips in excellent condition and two mags, original box and accessories, lol. Retails over $700 (if you could find one). Off to the LGS to sell on consignment.
