Sorry to hear you are going through this, but YES ... there are ways to track ANY vehicle and rather inexpensive too and a person does NOT need to be a licensed security or investigator to buy and use these.

Working in security field we have used these devices to track clients as well as other assets. Very cheap and the subscription to the service cost only about $20/mo. With the subscription you can see when vehicle is not only moving and where it is located. But app attaches to Google Earth and you can see EXACTLY where the vehicle is on a street view. Times, speed, how long vehicle was a particular location, etc. What you would need to look for is around the bumpers, inside of fenders, above spare tire. These devices are usually put in a small Pelican type case with a large powerful magnet to keep it in place. On a full charge these will run for up to 3 weeks.

They are cellular based and ping off cell towers like your phone GPS.

There have been recent LoJack type threads with a variety of suggestions.

Can this particular device easily be hardwired in a way to allow it to stay charged?

So that one could use it as a form of vehicle 'security' in case of theft?

If you know hes following you, id install a Dash cam that can be hardwired to stay on all the time (or the Cig lighter constant on mod) and that way you can have video proof if hes behind you or comes near the truck. There are some really good cheap 1080P options out there. I have also seen some WIFI options that if you are in bed at home and someone comes near your camera it can let you know someone is there.

Think this could be a better solution. More upfront but you get a free year of service and 40 a year after that. I have it as part of my remote start but all it needs is 12 volts for the gps side of it.

    "Great as a Stand-Alone GPS.

    Verified customer(What's this?)

Bought as a Stand-Alone unit for GPS only. Very simple to install and works flawlessly. Just find a Constant + and a ground and a good hiding spot and it links and updates every minute or so. The Carlink App will show my vehicle within 10ft. Highly Recommended."

My PPV has a GPS tracker (see photo) anything long range would require a gps antenna.

You can go into your phones Bluetooth and search for new devices when you're in the truck.

If the 2016 is like my 2020 and he registered your truck on Toyota's owner site then the app can EASILY show your location, I can pull my truck location thru the app.

The 2016 doesn't have the same tech that allows that.

Close your facebook and google accounts, delete them off your phone.

Don't install any apps that have location tracking. Then you can't be tracked. Most android phones have the option to only allow location tracking when the app is open. Facebook is a major power drain, its always tracking 100% of the time. Delete Facebook and us the web page in incognito mode and maybe that will work.

You can get an app called tinfoil Facebook. It lets you use Facebook while blocking the tracking stuff.

    https://github.com/velazcod/Tinfoil-Facebook

If you're addicted to the facebook etc then start a new profile on a new/wiped phone.

If you gave permission to his account at any point to track your location then he can see where you are at all times on google maps.

Facebook saves everywhere you go, every business wifi you get close to, and every web page you go to and every app you use.

Tik Tok is by far the worst, they look at your texts, email, and photos for some odd reason, probably because its the Chinese government.

Apple is actually the best about not giving away your information, but they do a shit job of protecting it so stuff on the icloud gets hacked and stolen all the time. Those celebrity nudes that you see pop up now and then come from icloud hacks because apple has shit security.

There is a huge stink going on with Apple and developers because Apple is forcing apps to tell users what they are tracking and to get permission.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/08/app...t-track-users-without-permission-in-2021.html

And lastly, make sure you opt out of your trucks tracking with Toyota, they sell your gps and location data as well, even if you don't have the GPS package. lol

    Its insane isn't it?

This doesn't matter if you are in a "no fault" state. So make sure you know what the rules are.

That doesn't 100% matter. What is linked to your phone ? Google? Amazon? Check your location settings.

I wonder what happened to op. I had something pop up on Google about a lady that found a tracker on her vehicle. They never specfied what kind of vehicle. I guess the mechanic put a video on tik tok but i don't have that app so i couldn't see it.
