Is it possible to get the Waze prompts through the speakers when on android? The only way I've found is if you select Bluetooth as the audio device, but I can't seem to get it to play prompts while listening to music. I know there is a 3rd party app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mynavy.automaticbluetoothenable&hl=en
but I'm wondering if other people have this working through the stock app.

I have the entune premium auto and using a Nexus 5x with Android 7.1.1

This is what waze recommends but then it won't play through your car speakers:

The only way I've been able to do that while listening to music is to be playing music from my phone while running waze.

Your car speakers are only going to play sound from the source connected. So when your stereo source is on anything except bluetooth you won't hear sounds from your phone.

When you say "I can't seem to get it to play prompts while listening to music." Is that music AM/FM/XM or some audio app on your phone and your stereo is on Bluetooth?

I can get app notifications all day long on my phone while in the truck. But until I'm connected to the bluetooth app of the head unit, I never hear them through the speakers of the truck.

It's not playing prompts both when playing FM or XM. Note that Google Maps does play the prompts, I'm thinking this is a Waze issue as I believe it works with iPhone.

Never noticed mine playing prompts from anything gmaps included while not on the source for the audio output. I wouldn't expect it to either.

Exactly. I can use maps for nav, but if I'm not on bluetooth on the HU, I'll never hear the prompts to merge/turn/etc...

I seem to recall GMaps worked but I'll test when I drive home. It may have been during a phone call, and my understanding is the prompts do work during a phone call as it turns off the music audio.

Prompt work while on a phone call because your stereo switches to bluetooth source to take the call. That is why you don't hear your AM/FM radio over the phone all.

Well as an update that app I posted did not work for Waze, it turns off all radio and does play prompts through truck speakers but it muted all music for the duration of the app running.

iPhones can interrupt any source (e.g., radio) for map nav instructions. Convenient feature. Android doesn't support that BT profile. Annoying.
