I'm all about giving your kid whatever you can, unless your kid is an asshole. My kid got this.

It’s odd how some people choose to make a big deal about someone else’s kid getting a brand new ride for a present.

The world isn’t fair, not everyone has the same standards or budgets.

My daughter will be 14 soon, and she already knows that she’ll be getting a brand new car to drive.

reliability, safety, and peace of mind are more important to me when it comes to my kid.

She has already been learning basics of how to take care of a vehicle, and will definitely know how and where to change a tire if needed. She also knows that she has will have strict requirements to meet in order to keep this privilege.

She has also been educated and will continue to be educated in the massive responsibilities of driving and vehicle ownership.

Her mother and I work hard to be able to provide this safety and peace of mind.

in the end, it all comes down to choices.

to the OP, it sounds like you have raised your son similarly, and I hope that he embraces the responsibilities he has been gifted. Congratulations to him.

My daughter destroyed her first car. They suck at driving. Every curb around town has marks and pole.
Guess they think they are playing a video game in real life or something!!

mine has been driving on and off road, and riding dirt bikes for a bit now, no issues.

She knows that if she breaks it, she helps fix it.

My daughter is the only one in the family who has not been in an accident. Her first car was my old 2010 FJ cruiser.

I gave my son his 2007 AC 4x4 so he could get back and forth from Boston to Ohio while going to school. I wanted him to be safe, secure and have a reliable ride. Times definitely have changed but hard work, persistence , good grades and respect for authority have remained intact throughout my son's lifetime so a reward was justified. Congrats on both you guys for getting your new trucks and i'm pretty sure you'll represent you'll do the right thing. Carry on, enjoy the day and Merry Christmas to all.

I believe that is the point.... If the kid came on here and said, "New Taco owner!", he would have got the samething most people get. "Welcome, Nice ride." BUT that's not what happened. Someone signed up for a new account to post, "Look what I gave my kid." So to me, that is why he is getting picked at. If you read the OP replies, he seems to roll with the punches and that's great.

My first car was a 1966 Chevy Impala hand me down from an uncle in 1985. I wouldn't have traded that car for anything. It's all about the memories. One day I'll buy one again when the time is right if I can still find one. Your boy should have an easier time in 35 years finding a nice Tacoma.

Well, there is that of course. What I find with the younger folks is that their job tenure is pretty short, making the cost of housing turnover prohibitive so they just choose to rent by default. That’s not everyone, but it is a fair percentage. For those that want to buy, yeah…. It’s darn expensive.
