We got snow..should i air down?

    Here is the reply I have from Nokian’s head office in Finland regarding winter tire pressures. I have replied asking specifically for his opinion regarding airing down and will post his reply if he comments on this.

    Hi Steve
    Our recommendation when using Nokian branded M+S tyres is to use 20 kpa ( 0.2 bar) higher pressure level compared to summer tyres.

    Main reasons are:
    -better stability on bare road
    -less heat generation à better durability
    -more tolerance to weather temperature change ( 10 °C = 10 kpa )
    -lower rolling resistance

    20kpa is approx 3psi which in the case of my Off-Road is 10% higher than the 30psi Toyota recommendation.
