I'm guessing it wasnt your knuckle (done same in mine no issue) but rather an issue with the glass you can't see (chip, small hairline crack, etc.). But ya, living in AZ, these windshields sucked, replaced a few on my 17 and 19. The 17 and 20 here in IL have been great so far.

Now you have no reason to not do the windshield mod.

    Karma for smashing a bug

You could’ve cracked the window to let him out instead you cracked the windshield

That's correct, have to be careful from the inside as not too difficult to break. Probably didn't even hurt your hand, try breaking one from the outside and see what your hand feels like.

This isn't just a Tacoma thing. Lots of modern windshields seem to have cracking issues. I feel like I see more cars from the past 10 years with cracked windshields than the previous 10.

Knock on wood, I haven't had this issue so far, but my dad has had a crack in his 2015 Colorado windshield for a while. Meanwhile, my 2008 Canyon had several micro cracks and chips (not to mention putting) when I bought it, but despite very cold winters and hot summers, they never expanded.

That's crazy. My windshield withstood a large owl at 40mph.

Well lesson learned ...glass is breakable .. kinda of stupid to hit a windshield with your hand or with anything.
