Hey guys, I would have googled this, but I don't even know how to phrase the question.
The black rubber weather stripping-like thing came loose on my truck. The one that runs from the windshield on the drivers side up and over the driver's side doors. I pushed it back into place, and it's holding alright, but looking close I can tell that it's not flush like it used to be.
    What would you recommend doing?

Same thing happened on mine. Took it to the dealer and they glued it in. No problems since.

There's a sticky double sided 3m strip towards the middle of the weatherstripping along with channel's the weatherstripping will fit into. Check for that. Maybe redo the 3m strip.

Mine came off on driver side back window and the dealer said I was the one who did it and after arguing they did it as a “favor”
I go to a new dealer now.

My passenger side molding came off my 2018 completely. Don't know where I lost it. I suspect the car wash. I noticed it while I was washing the truck by hand a few weeks ago. I was washing the roof and was like, "WTH? The molding is gone." Dealer replaced it under warranty and the service adviser said that it is a very common issue. When I went in he didn't even look at my truck. Just asked me if I could get a pic of the VIN so he could get the process started. Took them 20 minutes to replace it when they got the part.

Had my drivers side one fly off in the car wash. Didn’t realized it until I was driving down the road and heard something whipping around. Still not sure how it didn’t completely fly off. I hoped out and pressed it back in. Haven’t had any problems since but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it comes off again

Don't go through a car wash and don't forget your groceries in the back seat.

Yup, happened to me as I drove it home for the first time. Driver's side, but near the back. Flew into the box with a clunk, luckily.

I had a similar experience. There were two service advisors standing around and one said order a new part and the other said no, we'll just glue it so it never comes off again. They did the other side too so I'd never have a problem with it either. It's all about the service advisor you get. Once you find a good one, stick with them.

I had my passenger come off and took it to the dealer, came off again and came back. After the third time I asked what the hell they were doing and now it has lasted. I assume they doubled up on the tap or this time cleaned it properly.

I had this happen on my ‘05.

Why doesn’t Toyota have a junior engineer sit down and read this BBS and make some notes.

Crossing my fingers that this doesn’t become a problem on my ‘18 because otherwise it has been perfect so far.

My rear drivers side trim came off too, must be some new environmentally friendly 3M tape, or it's the 3rd Gen turd curse catching up with me ugh!
Anyway, '16 is out the 3/36k warranty so here's what I did.

First make sure to get the right part from dealer, (about $80-90.00?) remove old trim with trim tool. Simply wedge it and pull up it comes off easy.

Scrape off all the old tape/glue, but make sure you leave the tape covering the rack mount fastener holes covered up. I used acetone after trying alcohol to completely remove old glue remains.

Next is to put the new part in, just set it in place first to seat it in the right place, then start at one end by peeling the tape and use the trim tool to set/push it all the way in. I can't stress it enough to take your time and make sure it's seated all the way.
Last but not least, reward yourself with a cold one. Or if you subbed it out to the body shop, tip the guy so he can have a cold one for you!

    Cheers!

Edit: I lost my section to the wind, but if you have yours and it is in good shape, just be sure to use 3M high quality trim tape and you should be GTG

Lol. I can't believe this happened.... So I did some dirt roads today and went to the car wash on my way home. Guess what was hanging down the driver's window after the air dry?
Got out, put it back and since the local dealer was like 3 miles away from the car wash, just went straight there.
Customer agent looked at it, went in the back to ask a tech, came back out and said that even though the factory used 2 sided tape (and there being none) it wasn't warranty (2000 miles on my truck, literally 2nd car wash) and I would have to pay to fix it. Was told that I had to only use Toyota car washes. I jokingly said "so your going to make this 3 dollar fix right anyway right?" nope, was told again that under no circumstance was it warranted. (I guess being between the bumpers only counts sometimes).

I just stared dumbfounded then asked to see the manager.

Manager came out, said there in fact wasn't supposed to be 2 sided tape from the factory (OK, who cares, there's also not supposed to be weather stripping just flapping around... ) and again, it wouldn't be covered under warranty and there was nothing I could do, corporate would say the same thing if I were to try. I had to argue for a couple minutes to get them to do a writeup basically saying nothing was wrong and they just put it back in the slot. If it happens again, I'll get my 47 cent fix for free dammit!

But like wow, what a difference a dealer makes. Anyone in Northern Seattle area wanna shoot me a PM (or post) of a good dealer? I'll keep going to the Everett one for piddly stuff, but anything serious and I just lost all trust for them, over 50 cents worth of silicone or two sided tape....

At some point mine completely disappeared. Fortunately, the dealer comped me a new one.
