I thought my 87 yota had a webber38 carb. Bought a rebuild kit but the needle valve a gasket are way off. Any idea what carb this actually is?

Most guys on this forum have never even seen a carb, they were obsolete before they were born. You may have better luck on pirate4x4.com .

Try and get the numbers off the carb to cross reference.
    Double check with application.

Ok, I'm looking in my weber repair manual and it looks like a DGAV but can't tell for sure from the photos. There are 2 manuals that are very good for rebuilding webers. The first is Weber Carburetors by Pat Braden published by HP Books and the second is the Haynes technical weber Carburetor manual. I've attached a photo of a table to help identify the carbs. The photo is from Pat Braden's book. Going from memory, a company called Redline has all of the parts you would need along with help in identifying the carb. Another place is Pierce from Gilroy, CA. Webers are a really good carb in that you can adjust all of the parameters. The downside is that you can adjust all of the parameters... I'm running 3 weber singles on my classic Ford straight six.

    Just checked.
I don't have a kit for that in my junk pile....

That is my problem. There is nothing stamped on the base like there should be.

    Well that sucks....

If vss can't help you then try calling a toyota dealer for a part number for the carb.
Places like Napa have been able to cross reference the part number for a carb number for a kit number..

I dont have a carb number. Otherwise iwould be able to find out. Also the 38 has a square opening and mine has oval.

It looks like a twin shaft simultaneous opening carb. That'll narrow it down quite a bit to the lower right column. Call redline (redlineweber.com) they'll probably have you measure a few things and tell you what it really is. DFAV evidently was a common simultaneous opening 2 bbl carb. I don't know enough to ID it via pictures. There's also webercarbsdirect.com I bought stuff from them too. They would be a great resource as well.

    I found a picture of a DFAV - I don't belive that's what you have

Call a dealer like I suggested. Just ask for the part number. For the carb. See if they still have the kit number also. Then you will have cross reference material
