My guess (Phil/Iggy forgive me if this is incorrect information) is plain and simple different business model. I can appreciate that these guys are wanting to perfect their product before asking people to pay without seeing the final product.

Neat, I had a similar idea for where to mount an AC unit. Someone posted a very compact window unit AC thing that's not quite out yet (call Noria) in the GFC thread. I kinda imagined on the GFC having a pair of brackets on the rear rail that the AC unit could mount to, then have a zip out panel in the rear tent canvas for the unit.

Eh, I may try something like that, but I think a camper top is probably 1-2 years out for me.

ETA: the little AC unit change names. Now it's "Kapsul" https://www.kapsulair.com/.

The V1's are the root of Vagabond. Although the Drifter was designed in early 2017, we did have a business license, LLC, and approved patent application under Vagabond Outdoors LLC before the Drifter was released and while we were still using the V1's for testing. And @MTNHABITOVERLAND is still putting to the test in Baja right now! :burnrubber:

These 3 campers are production models. It was our first run and we are still working on the tail end of that, while firming up production efficiencies, before taking more orders. Feedback from the initial trip also brought up a few improvements, not redesigns, that we are incorporating into the future campers. We reached out to friends who use their trucks hard and camp often, and the different perspectives really helped us make small refinements that future customers will appreciate. And we can't thank them enough for the unsolicited support!

Believe us, it would be great to take orders & deposits now and get much more cash flowing, but we aren't crowd-funding this operation. Not that there's anything wrong with that...;)

Oh this is great. I'm starting to see the bigger picture now. Most of my exposure to these (Vagabond/Iggy/Phil) campers was via Instagram so there was little backstory. I had no idea who was behind it all.

I really hope you're not talking about me. Because what you're asking is exactly how I responded (go back and read my comment without any emotion). I've been clear in saying that I want both Vagabond and GFC to be successful, and I whole-heartedly agree with your message. At the same time, this thread can also go without your smart ass reply about me possibly not knowing the answer, when in fact, that's pretty much what Phil said in his response.

Again, I appreciate your efforts with this well-organized thread, but don't call out people's shade and then passive-aggressively do the same.

Well do me a favor and quote any of my posts where I talked shit about any company. Don't worry, I'll wait.

And let's be clear here, YOU derailed your own thread by your passive aggressive comment. I'm done trying to talk any sense with you.

DONT TALK SHIT ABOUT WHAT I LIKE!

GFC fanboys are tough to try to bring anything up that you may not like. Its been painful trying to ask a simple question or discussing something without being lit on fire.

i've discussed gaps and panels not lining up and people came at me with torches and bullshit reasoning to justify why the panel gaps exist. Its a joke to try to have a different opinion.

While this is correct i can have my own opinion on a visual (what i consider) defect. It effects my OCD and doesnt make much sense on how it seals. Seems short sighted to me. I dont need to see it in person or own one to form that opinion that i can clearly see from the photos provided.

I dont even have a truck or anything with a bed so i dont have a horse in this race. I've seen the Drifter in person and seen them being built. I have zero allegiance to either side. But i do have strong opinions and initial beliefs are usually what i stick with, good or bad. Knowing the people who build one but not the other has zero weight to my opinion. I've told Phiggy certain things i do not like on theirs as well. So this statement really doesnt hold any water.

PS: bunny hops dont count as sending it :p:bananadead:

I definitely want to see one in person. You saying you had great experience with little dust is impressive as i would have thought otherwise. Im interested to see long term effects with the seal like that and hope it does keep the dust out as that could be seriously annoying.

I agree name calling and poking can be unprofessional but i mean you gotta agree without the paneling it resembles a lumber rack. Its definitely not a lumber rack but all my years in construction and building its immediately what i thought when i seen the tubing design. Looks similar to a tradesmans campershell on the back of his pickup i see on the jobsite daily. Personally im not a fan of the tubing but i understand its strengths in building and easier to mass produce. I mean he even references the lumber rack similarities here.

The jump joke was to create humor to show im not angry and this isnt a heated debate, just casually discussing two different campers. I like your content across all platforms and value your opinion on things in general but saying i cant have an opinion because im friends with Phil/Iggy was a little over the top.
