I really don’t want to get in a pissing contest, but aluminum is NOT always stronger than steel. The material is always STIFFER than steel; the modulus of elasticity or Young’s Modulus of steel is 3x that of aluminum, so for the same part geometry (thickness, etc) aluminum will deflect 3x more than steel with the same load. But the STRENGTH of aluminum can be much higher, depending on alloy, than a low carbon mild steel. Finally, we are talking about DESIGNS and PARTS here, not just materials. An appropriately engineered aluminum part, like an engine piston, airframe, bike frame, boat hull, can be much stronger than a steel part. Or not ... it’s ultimately a factor of the design and manufacturing process, not just the material. I think the GFC camper is an elegant and creative product, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only solution.

Is there some sort of pull on the inside to close the camper or do you always have to be outside and use the fabric to lower the top? The fabric looks a little “light” in the video by the way it wrinkles in your hands.

Ummm. I close mine from the inside using the handle because there’s space to stand and pull it down with the bed in place. No grabbing and pulling of fabric on my drifter :notsure:

One reason I could see where I would want to be inside to close is if the weather turned to shit and I want to pack up and leave. I realize it takes less than a minute to close, but that’s one less minute I would be outside getting rained on while wrestling soaking wet fabric.

My comment has nothing to do with being exposed to the elements. I just don’t understand the pulling of the fabric to close it is all. Seems like that could cause some issues down the road potentially.
Either way, looking forward to checking yours out when we go camping

Ill show you mine if you show me yours :p

One thing I’ll probably want to add is a long elastic that connect at the hinges. How the alucab tent does. You place it on the fabric and the elastic tucks it in for you. Easy done. Should work on either design.

Cause both fly, one by design, the other temporarily for shits & giggles.

I'm sure you do. But not a full 6' of space from the entire bed.

With a wildernest open, the entire bed is open for you to walk around in. Full 6'.

yeah. Thats the advantage of the total flip out bed that the Wildernest/flippac/habitat have. Plenty of compromises to go with it as well though.

was cool though. No joke felt like a small bedroom.

Anecdotally I've been using an Alu Cab aluminum shell with a 200 lbs tent on top for the last several months and it's held up great for close to 20,000 miles including me t-boning someone running a stop sign at 40mph.
Obviously most of that is highway but a good amount of that is off-road as well. It's welded together and I haven't noticed any signs of the welds breaking. I'm not jumping my shit, but I certainly don't baby it either.

Just thought I would pop in to show some habitat love.. Alot of constructive discussion in here!

AT is missing out by not participating in here imo. Im in no way affiliated aside from the fact I bought a habitat and am loving it, just got back from 8 day trip, didn't want to come home.

Also has been great to be able to move my on board water / fuel tanks to the exterior walls.
