I’m thinking about an Alaskan or a Camp-X now that I don’t have a Tacoma and its size limitations. There’s also a good chance I’ll just opt to save a ton of money and buy a used pop up like an older FWC or similar.

Totally agreed on both points. I love the full side access, plus the option to put the camper on stands and just have a tray left is amazing.

TBH, I really like the Fifty Tens. Brian from GooseGear has one that I’ve checked out at 3 different shows now. And saw the Gladiator version in person. They’re on a whole other level, and so is the cost. It’s a very well built camper.

We do plan to eventually offer a flatbed version, specifically for Tacomas, and have most of it already developed. The dimensions will be really close to my old camper, and so will the price point (please don’t ask...yet ;)). Our current facility and lead time won’t allow us to offer this for a while. We’ll definitely let everyone know if things change!

I have no doubt they are high quality, just higher in price than I would of suspected. I would love to see one in person.

Itll be cool to see what you guys come up with as well. I am all for small shops, quality over quantity.

Really feel bad for the GFC customers having a bunch of problems with their campers. The company came on strong when they first came out. They used TW to spring their product onto folks in the form of a Go Fund Me/Kickstarter type business plan then once they got a bunch of people’s money, they disappeared on TW and stopped answering questions on here, meanwhile kept making all these proclamations on IG about how they were the hottest shit since sliced bread. I always wondered why they never had vendor status on TW. Now they’ve fucked a lot of people on here with a bunch of problems on their campers without any viable solutions/fixes. Really hope they figure their shit out. They’re gonna continue to sell more campers and hopefully no one else falls victim to a broken hinge, or broken/faulty anything else.

It is a bummer they bailed from TW, but they are actively fixing campers with issues. I wouldn't necessarily say they've fucked a lot of people. Unfortunate, yes, but they aren't leaving everyone hanging. It just can be difficult logistically to get these things fixed.

Also - they're claiming the hinges have only broke on the older units, and that the new seals/process have fixed the issue. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.

Well that’s good to hear. I just hate to see shit happen to the TW community, or better yet, the offroad community in its entirety. Especially after the Pelfrey crap. This is not a cheap hobby and folks need their dollars to maximize as much as possible.

In the end, its about getting out - whatever set up you have. And when something is preventing you from going out, or it cuts your trip short because you have to fix something that’s not suppose to be an issue in the first place, it’s really a pain in the ass.

That's really going to be the kicker. Everything else has been fairly minor but if they didn't fix the hinge problem like they say it's no good.

IDK if all of that is accurate. The issues that they have are with the hinges and are only prevalent in campers that were some of the originals (they have since switched the process that was breaking). They have also stopped posted on TW in an attempt to start their own forum site, where they can more closely sift through suggestions and issues, as opposed to EXPO and TW where the threads get derailed quickly.

I am not in any way trying to defend GFC, as you said they have had their fair share of issues, however you can't hate on their process, they spent a shit ton of money on marketing and it paid off as they have over 800 campers ordered. I also don't think it's completely fair to compare them to Vagabond, AT, Alu-Cab as the GFC is a very niche product more concerned about weight (and durabilioty, ironically) than livability. It's also significantly cheaper given the options.

Yea totally get your point. I’m not trying to bag on the company, I was just more concerned about the customers and potential customers. I like to think of myself as an advocate for the offroad community (as evident with all of the community events I’ve hosted over the years), and I just feel for the people that have been inconvenienced. We all know what it’s like to be on a trip and something on our truck isn’t 100%. That shit sucks and sticks with your mind for the duration of the trip.

As I’ve mentioned, I hope there are zero issues with the GFC campers moving forward because that just means more people are getting out and doing what we all love to do.
