What kind of steps, if any, is everyone using to get to their bed?

I had a single step, but it was still a bit of a stretch to get up to the tailgate. We're now using something like this https://www.amazon.com/Cosco-2-Step...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=A078TQY7M050113STJYD. It's bigger than I'd like, but it makes getting in and out much easier.

On this note, getting in and out is definitely my biggest complaint about the camper. It's quite awkward getting on to the tailgate, but then crouching below the window as I waddle in. I think a full size rear door with no tailgate would make it way less awkward cause you could just step up in to the full height space of the camper. If the rear entrance swung to the sides too it'd be ideal for me personally.

We use an aluminum tote (similar to an AluBox) with a wooden platform on top for our step. Its multipurpose for us since it holds all of our dry food and kitchen stuff.

Seems like a lot of people like the folding step, in particular the 2 step plastic folding step like @Overlanerd uses.

20 nights in the Vagabond Outdoors Drifter so far!

Just spent four weeks touring the southeast to visit family --- Illinois --> North Carolina --> Atlantic coast to Florida --> across to Tampa --> around the Gulf to Mississippi --> north to Memphis --> home to Illinois

Camped 15 nights, the rest were spent with family. No hotels!

I'll check that one out - thanks for posting it up! I like the aluminum better than the plastic type.

I have a 1Up with no extension or swingout, in the factory hitch. As Senator already knows (but other may not) the 1Up has a lowering mechanism - when it's in the lowest notch, the tailgate can open fully even with two bikes on the rack. You just have to climb onto the gate from the sides. Not sure yet about clearance with the Drifter window when the rack is in traveling position... no problem with two bikes on my FWC, but the FWC sits just inside the closed tailgate. The Drifter will be a little longer.

The drifter window definitely will not open with bikes in the travel position. It hits my bike frame slightly even with the swingout, though I can shimmy it past, and the window hits my handlebars before fully opening. It does open enough that I can get things out though.

Also figured I'd throw up a few shots from our recent trip...

We had a wedding in Napa and decided to drive from SLC instead of fly because our daughter sleeps really well in her carseat. I love that our wedgie makes this possible. We also used the Mr Buddy heater for the first time since the temps were in the low 30s at night. I was a bit worried about CO, but the fan vented things nicely and everyone's still alive, so...

I think my wife could better respond since she still deals with most of the baby issues in the middle of the night.

Overall it's been good though! Baby sleeps in a fold up bassinet between us. It makes bed space a bit tight, but works for now. I'm starting to brainstorm ideas for a toddler bed down below since she's gonna outgrow the bassinet soon.

I built a bed platform in the lower level for a kid sized person.

Checkout https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ildout-and-mods.540940/page-106#post-20829660 for more details. I also found a mattress that fits perfectly across the drifter.

The drifter has been the best kid related purchase we've made.

Did you do all of the insulation on the sides yourself or was some from VO and you added the carpet like material?
