I am going on 9 months now since deposit. The long wait certainly does not help.
I do not think my kids (5 and 8 year old) will last 1 hour on top of that platform since they constantly roll around in bed. Would be safer to sleep on the floor IMO.

@alldownhill I have a platform built for the lower level that could sleep a kid (or 2 adults), but I'm talking about something for a baby/toddler. As @4wdExplorer mentioned, I do not want my daughter on a platform she could fall off of when she's less than a year old.

My current idea is to build some sort of barrier part way down the galley-way that would contain her and fit a crib mattress.

My 2 year old rolled around on it a bit but did fine. My 4 year old likes the platform a lot and doesn't seem to move around as much. It mainly gets used by the 4 year old but it would be trivial to add a bumper to prevent rolling off, especially with the extrusion. I would definitely prefer the kids on a platform instead of the floor. I'd rather them fall off the bed than get stepped on accidentally.

Roger that, I have some ideas for baby sleeper set ups but luckily I have a few months to figure it out!

We can also turn our entire lower section into a bed, that will def be an option down the road

    wife says...
    • fold up bassinet has been key early on since it made grabbing her for nighttime feedings easy. We tried putting her down below at first but it was a pain to reach down off the platform to grab her.
    • She did a lot of leaning against the tent wall for feedings in bed and it was surprisingly supportive. building some sort of head board up top would have been great. **i don’t have any good ideas for how to do that...
    • Once our daughter starts sleeping through the night, we’ll move her to some setup below the bed. We look forward to having our drifter bed back.

It would obviously be a compromise in other ways, but if you got or made an extra bed platform extension to fill most/all of the standing room towards the rear, you'd have plenty of space for the baby up top without taking up any of the existing sleeping space.

I have been working up some options. One thought is a “hammock,” of sorts with verticals walls to give her somewhere to sleep out of the bed platform but still within easy reach. Similar idea to what @snwbrdr852 is saying.

    I appreciate the info @SenatorBlutarsky

I adopted the wedge life about a month ago. I was a ground dweller before I became a wedge dweller.
It's only about half built...like it needs a tent.

Diablo lake! Went camping there on a site only accessible by boat. Probably the best camping I've done.

    Indeed I do!

I'm debating between making it myself or paying to have it done. I have access to a sewing machine but I'm being a little lazy.

There's a couch/bench in the camper that I slept on with the lid closed as well as open. It's 27" wide on a 4" mattress so pretty comfy. I built the couch so I can stealth camp in parking lots with the lid closed. It's also a place to hang out.

We're in a similar situation. We had a Transit campervan with a platform bed and our 3 year old would sleep on the floor on a pad attached to her sleeping bag. She rolled around a ton. Second kid (newborn at the time slept up top with us). We've since downsized to a Tacoma short bed and our Drifter should be done soon. Kids are 6 and 2 now. If you have space, check out the ultra-light portable crib that had a way smaller footprint than a pack n play. (https://www.amazon.com/Dream-Me-Tra...ocphy=9032155&hvtargid=pla-426310247484&psc=1)

We use it a lot. Plan for our girls are to get two down sleeping bags and roll this pad out, width wise at the front of the Drifter. Check the dimensions on the "kids" size. Wish us luck..

Pre-drifter we took a boat up and backpacked the Diablo lake area and then had a boat pick-up. It was awesome. You can never go wrong with the N. Cascades.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a 12v throw that I could use to prewarm the bed in the winter? This would be a huge benefit for the wife after a long day of skiing. I see a number of options on Amazon, but none seem to rise above mediocre.

    https://www.amazon.com/Sojoy-Electric-Blanket-Checkered-Burgundy/dp/B01LY0HODX

This one uses more power than the other ones. 3 timer settings, 3 warmth settings. Worked well in -12°F weather.

**edit - I have a Big Agnes -20°F Elk Park bag with a Thermarest sleeping pad. Putting the electric blanket above me worked as well as putting it below me.

I've also used it when I was crossfaded and barfing over the side of my truck in 13°F weather w/ the window open. With the blanket underneath me, I was plenty warm w/ the engine running with both windows open and a wool blanket and 800 fill power Canada Goose Citadel Parka.

As long as your battery is up for it, this blanket saves lives.
