What about something like this? I have no expertise on these, or this issue, whatsoever but I saw it on link someone posted on this thread about DIY solar. The guy lives full time in his RV and uses these (or something similar). Just a thought.

i paid much less Black Friday last year (and an extra $100 since They sent the wrong color) but totally worth the extra braking powder with how heavy our trucks can get (mine was Heavy pig even before the drifter).

Yeah 2k bucks is a lot to shell out, though stopping is important... not sure I’m ready to pull the trigger but maybe when my truck needs it’s first set of brakes, or after I win mega-Millions lol. It does seem a worthy upgrade, it’s just where it’ll fall on the list. BTW thank you for the link, that thread has a ton of great info.

Just out of curiosity because I see it quite often on the forum: Can you just drive around in North America being over the GVWR and nobody cares?
Here in western Europe it‘s highly illegal to be over the manufacturers GVWR. They do random checks on the borders or along the Autobahn where they put your vehicle on mobile scales. If you‘re over the GVWR you receive a big fine and need to unload the vehicle to drive any further. Or leave the wife behind

America, fuck yeah! We drive around overloaded with a backseat full of guns and ammo too!

All seriousness as has been mentioned there’s not a plan in place to check non-commercial vehicles for almost anything. That said if you have a gross failure and hurt someone you could still certainly be held liable. I’d imagine if GVWR was enforced in this country there’d be a whole lot less Tacos rolling around and a whole lot more F250/350’s on the road. That or TOYOTA would pull its head from its ass and give us a Hilux.

Yeah, I got the idea from @TTT, but the Rigid 22" box works pretty well. 3x of them fit nicely between the wheel wells in the bed, and 4x fit pretty snugly across the back of the bed. Waterproof, pretty tough, and they look cool if you paint them all black like Tim did. ;)

So this happened yesterday. Pretty stoked to find one used. Picked up from someone in this thread, but I'll let him oust himself. Anyhow, really excited to start the build process.

Thanks all. Sorry excited to get it home and get to work. The trip home is pretty bare bones and not the most comfortable. We've got big plans for the interior build out.

Highly suggest painting them, or covering them with a tarp. Mine were stolen a few months back, along with shit ton of tools, camp, and recovery gear! Two were painted, two weren’t. The orange trim really sticks out to prying eyes.

Just got home after picking up the Drifter from the previous owner in Bend, Oregon. Had the first 3 nights in it on the way home. Definitely a bit rough getting used to it, but each night was consecutively better and I think we'll love it in time. The rough spots were primarily due to us having quite a light load and not being outfitted to handle the cold as well as being bare bones in a few other categories. Overall the Drifter is pretty rad.

Speaking of cold nights, My Propex HS2211 just showed up Saturday. Still have no clue where I am sticking it on my Tundra. I really wish someone made a swing out tire carrier bumper that looked good and didn't weigh 250 lbs! I was wet sanding my Tundra this weekend for my desert camo paint job but sometime this week I will crawl around under the truck and explore placement options. Want to add a water tank under the truck as well.

Hopefully being full sized, you will have some options. I was lying under my Taco this wkd trying to determine a spot for a water tank but there is just no damn space except for the spare tire area and that is kind of shitty for weight distribution in my opinion. I wish I could go flatbed and still utilize a Drifter.
