It’s a cool product, but my concerns is that they built one for themselves and then started a company.

Live hinges like GFC has experiencing many failures with (and FINALLY came out with a different hinge under their “replacement tour”).

Young couple doing similar to the other companies of subcontracting worn and then finishing the assembly themselves

I like the form factor of combining a minimal footprint when closed up and a lot of interior when open.

@wackytacky - my dad owes you a beer. The Leentu is real and showed up in his driveway a few min ago.

I looked at these. I believe they use a fiberglass or composite roof. They are very light. I worried about the durability compared to the Vagabond I wound up going with. It's been over a year though and still no camper.

“Tent is very nice. Unit is lightweight. Less than 3/4 squat. Construction quality is good. But, over material quality selection is average and reflects the goal of saving weight.”

“The composite side panels are kinda cheap looking. I may replace those with aluminum some day. ”

    “Mattress is cheap”

“Wooden floor panels are probably the heaviest part of the whole unit. “

    early impressions from my dad.

@JasonLee Well, that is pretty sweet! I have been searching the "Truck Camper" category on Ebay for two years (probably daily & for no real reason considering the Drifter was ordered last July) and that was only maybe the second time I have even seen a wedge on their for sale. I am glad that worked out & he got himself a deal. It looks pretty good matched w/ the silver truck too I have to say. Is it a fully enclosed box (has a floor) like an Alucab then?

It's pretty much just like a Drifter. Bed platform moves, mattress folds up.

The struts are on the inside, so it's kind of a pain to tuck the tent in when closing. My dad uses a golf club to tuck it in while closing from the rear.

    Hello all,

Since I was lucky enough to score a used drifter in early July, I have been using it extensively for work and play (probably 45ish nights in it so far) and I love it. It's a base model, with a black wrap the previous owner applied, so far I have only added tie down tracks to the roof in anticipation of roof rack bars and solar.

I need to keep my truck bed for truck things, so most of the time my load out is pretty simple; 2 pelican 1500 cases for the camp kitchen and dry food, and one larger pelican case (model depends on how much gear) and 5 gallons of water. All of these get strapped down to tie down tracks or extra tie down rings I've added in the bed. Having spent a month plus on the road with 3 people living out of a land cruiser or 4th gen 4runner, this thing feels cavernous. The fridge and stove live in the cab on a platform I built that replaces part of the rear seats.

For the sake of versatility, and not adding much weight, I likely won't build out the bed.

We just got back from 10 days living out of it (9 year old son and I) and it's been a real game changer.

Over the years, I've run a bunch of different setups, and this is my favorite so far. The truck has upgraded suspension and been re-geared, so it moves the camper quite well.

Another update on the Leentu Sunzal:

"Rain test last night. It leaks at bed level all four corners. Tent/top did good.
At bottom of camper / top of truck bed. Front seal and putty got hard and previous owner damaged perimeter seal with he listed it off/on."

Sounds like he lucked out since some reports of the Leentu campers were that the top itself leaked due to poor sealing during construction.

I've been lurking here for awhile, and everyone has given me some great ideas. I'm starting to plan getting a wedge camper in the next year when I retire and spending a good bit of my time traveling around in it. I'm getting excited, to say the least.

But I've started researching things like insurance and I wanted to know if anyone has advice. Since wedge campers are so new, it's hard to find much about them, but I've read a lot of horror stories about people being unable to get insurance for camper vans.

Basically, I'm just wondering what everyone's experience is with insurance on these. To me, it shouldn't be any different than having a standard shell on the back, so regular car insurance should work, but I don't know if insurance companies get nervous just because it's also a camper. And does it make a difference if you start building it out on the inside? I don't want to lie to the insurance company or not disclose the fact that I'm using it as a camper, so will that make a difference?

    Thanks!

Best thing is to call your insurance and ask but my insurance treats it as a bolt on component and covers it without having to get any extra insurance specific for it. Hope that helps.

I went for disclosure to insurance agent as I have quite a bit more cash invested in this than a basic shell. Good thing I did as I was told without such I would not have recouped my investment. Others have said their carriers did not care. YMMV

I use State Farm, and asked about the camper/insurance thing when I first picked up my Drifter. I asked about the fact that I was going to build it out and spend quite a bit on various accessories and parts of the build. They told me to simply keep receipts and the entire camper and buildout would be covered under my existing truck insurance. So - if I total my truck/camper setup, they will pay for the entire thing. I was pretty stoked about that.

State Farm is a quality company from my past experience, while my premiums were more their policies regarding replacement are solid.

I currently have Travellers Insurance, and they are very easy to deal with. I have my Auto/Homw with them now.
Unfortunately they do not offer motorcycle insurance.

My State Farm made me add additional coverage for my Drifter. I'll call them again and explain it better since I don't think they understand that Drifter !== RV.
