Well, I finally got around to installing the factory LED kit to the bed of my Tacoma. For those of you that have a cover, you know how hard it is to see under there at night. I took my time and tried hard to make it look professional.

Using the instructions, you cut out the template and place as described.

    IMG_3028.jpg

Next, drill the holes and run the wires through the larger 7/16 hole.

    IMG_3017.jpg

Secure the LED lights and housings with supplied screws being careful not to overtighten.

    IMG_3029.jpg

Here is where I diverted from the instructions. I am not a fan of all the extra wire and connectors etc. I cut and soldered everything near the spare tire. You will have a hard time finding the added lights from stock harness.

    Sealed up

    IMG_3036.jpg

Last but not least, make the connection to the factory harness to tie into the cargo circuit. Again, I soldered and taped the connections vs. the wire clip that came with the kit. I don't trust those. I soldered and taped the connections at the kick panel.

Wires put back in their loom

    IMG_3043.jpg

The finished product. Overall I am very pleased with these lights.

First time I'm seeing these. How do you turn them on/off? Does the key have to be in the ignition?

The kit comes with instructions to tie into the cargo light circuit. So when you open the door, unlock the truck or use the cargo switch they come on.

These are South East Toyota add ons.
Not quite OEM, but oem quality and designed for the Tacoma.

I have these and MattGeckos under the rail lights.

These were installed on my truck when I bought it. I didn't really want them when I saw them listed as a dealer installed option, but I'm glad I have them now. They do a great job of lighting up the bed.

The TRD Sport model has the cargo lights integrated into the 3rd brake light. Not sure what other models do.

Do you turn it on somehow? I have a TRD sport. No idea how my cargo lights turn on though.

I know they're LEDs, but what number is that wire going to the rear has it been verified that it can handle the load? I'm sure it can, but I figured I'd ask.

Looks like 16ga. I think these draw like 700 miliamps. No worries and it's tied to the cargo fuse circuit.

My kit has been sitting on the bench since January! Thanks for motivating me. :)

Where do I find the wire in the kick panel?

The directions in the PDF worked fine for finding the wire. It really is an easy project. Hardest part was running the wire along the frame honestly.

I got my light kit today. Ordered from Amazon, and they were shipped from Daytona Toyota...there were no instructions at all in the box! Anyone have a link to where I can download the PDF?
