    7 years ago I was on the Upper Mississippi shooting Eagles (I heard baldies taste like chicken). 20 miles to the South I seen those smoke trails in the sky but that was all I could see. Set the 300mm lens with 1.4x TC to infinity and manual settings and snapped a few shots. Got home and zoomed in.

    20 years on ships including 2 birdfarms, seen my share of birds including Hornets. Was surprised to see the Blues had gone to the F/A-18 last I knew they were using trainers. The only airport to the South of where I was is La Crosse, Wi. so looked up their schedule for the next day. Used google earth to find a road on the edge of a bluff to get as close as I could to the airport but above it, no need to go to the airport and hang around with a bunch of Airedales and crowds of people.

    As luck would have it the cloud ceiling was low so they flew lower than normal. Had the best seat in the house they often came straight at me and over me breaking to increase altitude before hitting the face of the bluffs.

    When flying that close to you and that fast it will test your panning skills, and trying to fit it all into the frame at 420mm

    In 87 I got orders to NETPMSA in Pensacola over at Saufley Field. I ended up doing training graphics for the team and some promotional crap. I was thinking of working for them when they asked me but really what they wanted was someone to wash aircraft canopies. I ended up in DC at the Pentagon and hated every minute. Still no regrets. The Blues schedule is hell for anyone.
