No better time of year to hunt than fall.

Ya for sure, you betcha! 2 seasons. Construction and winter.

The breeder of my oldest current Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a chemist at UND Fargo in the Animal Science Division. Met her at a Backyard Classic ~20 years ago in Buffalo, Mn. with 30 plus breeders and after talking to her knew that when the black nosed Toller in my avatar sitting in an empty 12 pound keg of Red Dot powder passed I would most likely get my next Toller from her. My instincts were correct and spot on. She is one of the best especially if looking for a hunter.

Hunt phez on the Central ND\SD border with some other retired Navy guys, the first 10 days of Nov. when most of the crops are out. Might be snowing or just damn pleasant, and can change to either one overnight.

October is grouse season for me and spend 3 weeks in a cabin on the tip of the Mn. Arrowhead. Last year at this time the snow came and didn't go away for more than 7 months.

Just got home today from this years trip. Yesterday was 66° but by this weekend will be back down to normal.

Last year the breeder wanted to breed my guy to a hunting bitch and I got one of the pups. Just took him this trip left the old man behind, pup just turned one and first year needs to be fun and get them birdy. I have a hunter on my hands, he is bird insane already. We all had lots of fun this trip. First grouse shot with him, dropped it at my feet instead of hand which is good enough for the first year.

Baby boy turned into a bird monster before we left, although you would not know it to look at him.

Well judging by the grouse feathers on the antenna for the Garmin Alpha maybe you could LOL. He really started to tear into the birds at the end if there was any life left in them and he did it with gusto. Winter will be force fetch and fine tuning time for him.

GREAT things come out of Fargo IMO.

Entry. It’s leaves. A step up from this could be feet sticking out of leaves. But I don’t have enough. Just sayin.

Fall. The short time frame when Larch trees needles turn to gold but before they drop off the tree, which is a deciduous conifer.

Yeah it depends on where you grew up with them LOL. Tamarack is what I hear most often here in the Upper Midwest. I am used to American Larch or more often just Larch.

According to Wikipedia: Larix laricina, commonly known as the tamarack, hackmatack, eastern larch, black larch, red larch, or American larch.

That is on the North Shore of Lake Superior, 2.5 hours NE of Duluth. The tip of the Mn. Arrowhead. Thunder Bay, Ontario is less than an hour away. It is also the heart of sledding territory in CONUS and training grounds for many that run the Iditarod and live in the lower 48.

From the center of the lake ahead on the trail North is Canada. NorthWest Ontario, what Canadians call the Sunset Country.

Last 2 years seems like everyone has discovered the North Country of Mn. and it is flooded with people since Covid. Relatively speaking anyhow, now I run into at least 2-3 people a day. Previously I'd likely see only 2-3 people all week long in the woods if that.

Down on the shore of Lake Superior the lake helps keep the temperature more temperate. But that is a relative thing at 30 and 40's below zero. It is the world's largest freshwater lake and deep and large enough it never ever really warms up much. I assume you are near the South Shore of Superior?

It is also the start of the boreal forest. Aspen is another tree that has many names. In the West I often heard them called quakies. I call them popples. Friend of mine was a retired Game Warden from Wi. and he went by the nickname of Popple Cop. He has passed on now and really was a Game Warden before they changed them over to Conversation Officers. I am old LOL.

Tried to get a picture of tamarack\larch with popples in the background to show the contrast of gold vs. yellow. Had a spot in mind from 2 weeks ago but this week when I went back with the dog the leaves on the popples had already dropped. A goal for next year maybe.

That's funny, I was just up in the MN north country. Beautiful area. Video I took up there. As close as you can get to being in the mountains out west without actually being out west. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgACbOQFNaM&ab_channel=BelectronBerg videos never do justice of course.

Spent a lot of time up there in winter as a kid, we have family friends who live in the area. Several summers in the boundary waters out of Ely too. Beautiful country out there, great pictures!

Um excuse me Sir, nobody gets to out blah and meh me:rofl:, have you seen where I live?
Dirt, I get dirt. Not even good dirt, the silty sandy kind.
