Happen to find this gem while on a bike ride today. Didn't have a decent camera with me so I had to take it with my phone. I'm pretty happy with the results.

I took this from the hip while working downtown yesterday. I 100% do not want to demean this man, but to shine light on his situation. To me, the true tragedy of "Urban Decay" is not some run down buildings but the people who are laid off and living in condemned, moldy, holes in the wall in each of our great cities. It's people who pay. It's always about people.

Didn't have my camera today, but I thought this was very fitting for the challenge this week so I captured it with my phone. Especially thought the rusting mailboxes made it special.

I wanted to get some pics of a few old buildings near downtown Fort Worth but time has not been on my side this week. I did manage to notice this building today on the way home from an Easter egg hunt. I happen to have my camera with me since I was taking pics of my son hunting eggs.
No idea what this building ust to be and it has been vacant for several years.

    Lots...see build
Best I could do near to Davis without going to woodland or Sac or Dixon. I looked around in Davis and only found one other place where there used to be a hazardous chemicals plant or something like that and they tore it down and it hasn't been rebuilt. It would've been perfect but I couldn't get a shot through the trees! Then I checked out the place where they used to do radioactivity tests on Beagles (sick, right?) and they haven't built anything there either but there weren't any signs so it would've just been an empty grass field...not very interesting.
This is a neat concrete bridge spanning Putah Creek out of town a little ways that's hidden by trees so you don't really see it until you're maybe 500ft away, which is pretty crazy! It's absolutely covered in graffiti, earning it the nickname "graffiti bridge." Other than the graffiti (which to me adds more character to it instead of decay), the road's a little pitted but otherwise is in relatively good shape, so it sorta fits "Urban Decay" but kinda doesn't at the same time :p

Went to my hometown for Easter today and have had this in mind as my subject for the challenge. It is Crussel's Service Station on the corner of Williams Street & Highway 62 in Westville, OK. It was established in 1952. I visited this station many times as a child. I would often stop by on my bicycle to air up my tires and drink a cold soda. It closed sometime in the mid 90's and has been decaying ever since.

A few blocks from the local beach resort there is an abandoned business district lined with shops that have long since closed. I didn't think there would be much to see but after I got out of my truck I spent an hour exploring the area which turned out to be a treasure trove of urban decay.

Holy moly, there is some awesome stuff this week. I wandered around town, couldn't find much. This is an old army surplus store that closed down a while back.

    Here we go….

    EFalco50 (Ethan)

Nice shot! I really like finding places like this. I really like taking pics of old concrete. I like the weathered painting on the wall too.

    Jmed109 (Jeremy)

This looks like a cool little building to explore. The composition just doesn't work for me. I think maybe I would have liked to see a little more of the surroundings. Maybe this would look cool in HDR to bring out the textures.

    pkjr (Pete)

It always makes me wonder what happened when I see an abandoned strip mall like this. It's also hard to get shots like this composed just right. I think I may have tried a low angle shot on this one. I like the B&W shot though. It really brings out the abandoned feeling in it. Nice shot!

    Reh5108 (Ryan)

This is a really cool shot! I like the lighting and the building as a shadow. It looks like a mountain retreat that just got forgotten about. Nice work!

    slow03z (Ryan)

Nice shot! This just makes me want to explore all around this place. I like the overgrowth and the lighting. I think it would really pop as an HDR.

    krap22 (Adam)

Cool shot! I always wonder when I come across something out in the woods about how it got there. I wonder why it's upside down too. Was it a wreck from way back that just got left or what? I came across an old truck once that was about 20 feet up in a tree on the side of a mountain. Nice shot!

    BuzzardsGottaEat (Chaz)

Nice shot shooting from the hip! I actually blew this one up to read the sign, lol. Nice capture with emotion in it. The decay does affect the people. I always wished I could have gotten in some of the mills around here to take pictures of the people working and making the textiles. But, that's just a forgotten memory around here now. I like the thought you put into photography.

    MikeyTG (Mike)

Cool shot! I like how this appears to be right in the middle of the city. I like the plant growth on the side of the house and the fence. I like the rusted mailboxes. I like the graffiti and how it just says somebody left and forgot me. Seeing this makes me think there is still stuff in it too. Nice work!

    tex (Aaron)

Cool shot! It's seems there is more and more places like this now. There is a closed down BFGoodrich factory about 10 miles from here and looks almost like this. This is another one of those shots that is really hard to get the composition right on. I don't know if maybe I would have maybe tried down low and close to some of the parking blocks. I like the grass growing in the parking lot.

    92shawman (Kevin)

This is a really cool bridge! I like how it looks like it's just out in the woods. It's funny how we build stuff and decay it. I think this would be a really cool shot as a HDR also. Nice angle with this shot. I kinda wonder what it would look like with the sun lower in the sky and the warm colors of sunset.

    Blackdog (Monte)

I like this! This is exactly like something I would love to explore! There are so many photo opportunities at places like this. I've visited a local mill that has burned for the last two years all the time and still find new angles to take photos. I like the kind of gloomy light in it.Nice pic!

    Pistol Pete (Eric)

This is just so cool that it's still around! Most places like this are the first to be torn down. I like how it looks like it closed and then was just left. Like they locked the door and went home and never came back. Very cool shoot and story! i like the colors in it too. HDR?

    chenbro

Nice shot! You've managed to get a shot I'm been trying to get for a long time. I like the leading lines that bring your eye to the back of the building and the old porches. I like the old busted tv too. Nice job!

    skidooman (TJ)

I really like the lighting in this shot! I like the weathered boards on the building too. It makes me wonder what this was originally built for and what it looked like when new. Really cool shot!
