I think it's diagramming that you need a light source and an object for both a shadow and a silhouette and that they both occur on the opposite side of the object from the light as you can't have a lit silhouette (that would just be a picture).

    I think I get it now...not the object...not the shadow...gotta take a pic of what's left over.

    :fistbump:

    But not a reflection either.

In a silhouette you're taking a photo of that actual object/person...in a shadow you are taking a photo of the shadow outline made by the object/person.

And not to mansplain too much in addition to your reply but it is a photog thread and I still have a Canon AE-1 with a motowinder gathering dust somewhere. The silhouetted object is captured as an underexposed foreground region resulting because it is backlit and its periphery is often but not always overexposed to yield a binary thresholding effect. To view a silhouette you must look in the opposite direction as the shadow is cast, i.e. toward the illumination source. This difference in direction of views is what that billiard ball rendering is showing via the eyeball looking in different directions.

525mph cloud silhouette. The storms made a wonderful light show (and bumpy ride).

    Storytime...
Me and a buddy have been going to Illinois and driving gravel roads every week or two for 30+ years. The last couple of years he always asks what the photo challenge is, when I told him this week's challenge he was like.....hmm, gonna be tricky.
So tonight I was like 'we aint got no photo challenge yet, let's park the jeep and see if we can figure something out'. This is the best we could do.
    Thats him.
