Thanks everyone, for the recognition. My first entry results in a win. Beginners luck. Probably be my last win. So many talented photographers. hey, cold, I ordered that book on exposure.

 

And that is why we went through Chief's initiation Heard they can't use live animals anymore though.....

 

Yep, and they don't call it initiation anymore, either. It's called CPO 365, or some such PC crap.

NEW CHALLENGE: THE MOON

Due Sunday at midnight of your local time. One photo per customer yadda yadda yadda. You guys know the rules and of course you have to take it since this was posted.

It's a good thing I can't enter this one. Right? I took a dozen pics last night and I'll be damned if I can get a shot that is focused. I tried all kinds of settings. Auto. Manual. Slow shutter speed. Super slow shutter speed. All from a tripod. Maybe it was too slow. I'll try again tonight. Was on 800 ASA, with shutter speeds of 1/2.5 5 sec. 10 sec.s 25 secs. No joy.

 

I'm betting it was too dark to get a good focus. I've had luck with manual focus, focusing on infinity then backing it off just a touch. Also the moon actually moves pretty quick so that 25 seconds won't work out. The settings for the moon will surprise you. Try out these, iso 200, f/11, shutter of about 1/250. Also make sure you're using you're timer so your hand doesn't move your camera, unless you have a remote then just use it. Good luck!

 

I did consider the movement of the moon, but didn't allow for that. I'll try those settings. Thanks

 

The moon has been up this week around 3 pm. Plenty of time to get a shot off.

 

Yea, I just spotted it for the first time yesterday, didn't have my camera and I was still at work. Hopefully today maybe

I like this shot. I've been trying to get a shot like this for some time now.

 

I like this shot. Gives me the creeps, though. Like I'm walking in the grave yard. Or, more likely, running like hell through the graveyard to get out of there, ASAP!
