Been a while since I've shot in the dark woof. I need to get out in the dark more! It's fun

A kitchen wisk stuffed with 0000 grade steel wool. Tie it to a 4' string, light it up and let er rip

 

Marc great job, I really like that a lot well done!

Mine is more of a learning picture, picked up a light\flash stand this week and some flash color gels. I wanted to get back into using a flash more and experimenting. Still learning it and will for awhile I expect. Got a decent snowflake macro one night this week and want to be able combine the blue gel with a snowflake macro eventually. Last night the icicles on the roof started melting as it warmed up and it actually rained. In Mn. in January no less.

Flash set manual at 1/4 power and 1/10 sec exposure.

 

Matter of hours left guys. Keep em coming.

 

Will have one shortly! Just got back from a little photo shoot walk-about.

 

Woo more pics! It's dark out right now and there's 4 hours till it's over (mtn time) Still time! haha

 

I was going to do the challenge with you guys but for some reason I can't find my mounting plate for my tripod.

Bad thing was I was at the camera shop yesterday and forgot about picking another one up.

 

What about @stroM- ?

He said he was getting in on this this week.

@SconnieHailer Marc: You tried a new technique and accomplished it well. I've been wanting to do this also for a while. I really like how the sparks came out over and around the truck to give leading lines right into the truck. It brings your eye right to the truck and I like it done in B&W. Nice work!

@Cold Iron Mike: You also are trying something new and are getting it down well. I like how the icicle is lit perfectly to give it the blue color but you can't really tell where the light is coming from. I can see you going far with this technique and producing some awesome shots with it. I like how you caught the water drop coming off the icicles. Can't wait to see more. Nice job!

@davidpick David: I really like this photo. I had taken some just like it last summer and enjoyed being out there at night. Something about a quiet dock at night all by yourself. I really like the contrast across the photo and the crispness of the time exposure. I've always had a hard time framing these kind of photo's and getting them where I feel like I did it right. I like your framing but like my photo's, had a problem with the leading lines in the photo drawing your eye to the city lights in the distance. You did a nice job with post and exposure.

Now, the part I dislike about the weekly contest. Having to pick only one photo. Everyone here always does such a great job and I have seen a lot of improvement over the course of this challenge from everyone. I wish we could get back to the huge turnout like we used to have.

I know I've been trying to find new stuff to put out there for everyone when I win so we can get some new techniques down and try to learn something new. I feel like this is an important skill to know because there are times when you just can't get somewhere in the daytime or it's just too crowded during the day to get a decent photo. Night photography can be as dramatic or story telling as you want it to be. Things change at night in both the way they look and the way you have to photograph them. I hope everyone took something away with them, even if it was just something small with this challenge.


But, enough of the talk.
