Weekly Photography Challenge Thread (see first post rules and then the poll at top before entering)

Just happened to open this thread tonight and realized I took a picture of the sunrise this morning. I didn't really put any time or effort into it since I had to get the lifts ready to run but here it is.

 

Yup, Midnight wherever you may be this week Chaz.

 

Will be going out for a night shot in a few. Hope to get something good

Hello!! Thanks for letting me be the guest judge! This reminds me of the 3 hour long critiques I had to do in college. It became more of a philosophy class than photography. I'll spare you from that level of boredom.


Some quick feedback...

Spintly (Greg): I like that you brought a foreground element into the photo. My eye started on the fence pole, but the red of the truck allowed my eye to travel into the image to the real subject matter - the Tacoma.
I do feel like there is a bit of a tangent with the cable coming off the pole as it runs along side of the sign. A little more space between the pole and the front of the truck, and less space behind the truck may have led a little better composition.

shipps (Josh): I appreciate your use of depth of field. Most people take photos of flowers and over-saturate them, but you went the opposite direction. Also good job using he rule of thirds by placing the sharpest part of them image on the left 1/3.
I did find the dark shape in the background a little distracting from the subject of the photo.

Don5352 (Don): Beautiful colors and good composition. I like that you have 2/3 sky on the left half of the image, and 2/3 ground on the right side. The mirrored symmetry is broken up by the rough outline of the trees and softness of the clouds.

Reh5108 (Ryan): This is one of my favorite times to shoot. I love the light and the color of the sky that you have here.
At first I thought the image was of electrical wires, then I looked closer and saw it was a ski lift. Perhaps a half-stop lighter would have brought more detail into the foreground while still keeping enough tone in the sky.


And the winner is........ Don!! Good use of silhouette and it was cropped well.

Overall these were some great images. Thanks to @medic2230 for inviting me to judge! Perhaps I will have to enter the next contest.

Thanks @Don5352! I actually only edited the photo on my phone. I should've clarified better in the post. Captured with my a6000. I wish iPhone cameras could capture that nice depth of field!

 

Still.... holy crap. Editing on the phone amazes me just as much, if not, more.

 

Appreciate it! The Lightroom phone app does pretty well for on the go stuff. I can upload pictures right from my camera to my iPhone via wifi then import them right into the LR app.

 

New Challenge: A small part of your truck

In Don's word's:

It's Tacoma World. The challenge is some small part of your truck. Don't want to see the entire truck. Just a small part, and it must still be attached to the vehicle. Could be a side mirror. A grill. A shock. A fuse box. A brake cylinder. You get it.

One photo per customer and due this Sunday at midnight local time for you. Time for this challenge starts NOW!
