Chaz (@BuzzardsGottaEat) actually has a really cool collection of candid portraits. I am sure he can direct you to some or the thread but there is no reason you can't get one because you are new to a city. If anything, you might make a friend .

Here's an article to get you thinking

Not pitty... just dont feel good about the back to back. feel like their should be a buffer so more people can win. I like people to participate. sounds worse then how I mean it though.

Quite the challenge to get this young lady's photo in the middle of a tournament. Been trying for a while now to take something she will enjoy posting.

Have had one of the 3 Pentax princesses the FA 43 Limited for a year and a half and struggle with it. Have it on one of my bodies out here in the plains pheasant hunting and forced myself to use it since I've been here, day 11 now. Guess a pic of the dog won't work but came close to nailing it. Have to go with the one after that low light so high ISO but will live with it. Need to play with this lens more, starting to understand it a bit better but have a long ways to go yet.

Retired Navy Capt. and Retired AF tanker driver working together on the plains. I limited out today on phez with help from my friends and great dog work from my Toller, life is good. No.. it is great!

I can't figure out the multi-quote for some reason haha so this may be sloppy but bear with all the posts...

This is a great photo! I can tell you're a photographer for sure. I like that you got down on his level, got strong focus on his face and used some natural framing and foreground as well as not too busy of a background. The only "tip" I would provide would be to be careful with the matted B&W photos as far as color cast. They often look good to me in LR but then a bit too cool in color or muddy. Overall I feel a connection with the portrait and direct eye contact and expression. Well done!

I like your use of layered background elements and your overall framing. Exposure looks even throughout. I would be careful with the post-processing so as not to get too much highlight and shadow clipping. Otherwise, cool shot!

Cool mask haha I have no idea what's going on with the suit jacket and mask and that really works for this photo. The lighting matches the mood and overall feel of the photo. Well done. I would maybe throw a piece of paper or something slightly reflective on your darker side to add a little more detail to the shadows. Well done!

Cool shot! I can tell she's really into the action of the game and I like how you're in front of her rather than to the side so it makes the viewer feel more engaged as if they were a part of the game themselves. I would watch your white balance and make sure the photo is level but other than those small tweaks this is great! I'm sure she'll post it up! ha

Being from Aberdeen, South Dakota you already know I'm connected to this shot! Awesome job making sure you didn't blow out the highlights and sunset but also didn't have too dark of shadows to see your subject. Well balanced. Those lighting situations are hard. I also like your framing. I can see those beautiful flowing hills that go forever in the good old midwest. It is the subjects genuine smile that makes me feel like I'm a part of the moment right there with them. Good job! I will say to watch that horizon line and make sure to keep it level as well as that this can definitely be pushed to shine just a little more in post processing if you're at all into that. Overall well done!

Great shot of the kiddo! She looks relaxed and happy to be there. Very natural. Well done! I would watch the cropping of the hand and maybe be careful not to desaturate the skin tones too much but overall this is great! Is that a backdrop or natural background? Good job making a solid portrait!

I'm torn between Mike's hunting photo and Jason's new baby boy! The hunters are in a very candid moment and I know it takes a lot to get out there and remember to snap a shot when you're having fun. Overall I have to give it to Jason this week. You photo is the strongest overall in composition, lighting, expression, connection, and is a great portrait! And what greater thing is there than having a new life in this world that is all yours to protect, teach and be there for! Great job, Jason. Make sure to send you challenge for this week to @medic2230

The hand wasn't a crop unfortunately, just bad positioning. :/
    And a very real backdrop.

Congrats Jason and well done by everyone!

Thanks for the feed back! Yeah the horizon on this one jumps out but it was a hill that slopes to the right behind the guys. Always thought it was flat on the plains until I started to come out here LOL. Right before I took that picture captured the little rock star in better light and horizon line. Your right it is hard to use a camera when hunting with dogs, guns and birds. But worth it when you make time for it. I have fallen in love with the prairie.
