Sometimes hearing the same thing explained a different way makes it click for someone, so I'm going to pretend medic didn't already do a great job and put it this way...

Aperture is the amount of light getting into the camera, and it is controlled by the f-stops. Think of aperture as the pupil of the eye. The larger the pupil, the more light that is getting in.

Aperture controls the depth of field, aka what is in focus in the photo. When less light gets in, more things are in focus. When more light gets in, you have a shallow depth of field which is useful for many things, such as portraits where you want the background blurry to keep the focus on your subject.

The confusing thing about f-stops is that the smaller the number, the larger the aperture hole. f/1.8 is a very large aperture hole, whereas f/22 is quite small. There are two tricks to remembering or making sense of this:

    a) Think of the f number as a fraction (which it really is, in essence, but that gets messy to explain). For example, in simple fractions, which is larger, 1/8or 1/2? Notice, the smaller denominator (1/2) is larger than the larger denominator (1/8)
    b) If you really suck at math, just remember, the larger the f-stop, the larger the depth of field, which is a much more practical way of thinking about it as a photographer.

ISO is the camera's sensitivity to light. In general, keep this as low as possible because it can introduce noise into your photo. Only bump it up when you need aperture and shutter speed at specific levels. This is possibly your last resort to get the exposure you need.

I was thinking the same thing, the original has some strange perspective going on with the horizontal movement runnin downhill, it messes with my eyes.

Did you only change the color of the smoke and add a filter?

:bananadead: I don't use filters, and it was to show an over exposed shot edited back to life. it was a purple smoke bomb to begin with purposely over exposed (maybe a bit too over exposed than I had planned but it worked), so I wont get harsh shadows and make the subject pop

Ah. That is why I got the filter vibe. The corners of the photo were grayed out, which is what made me suspect a filter.

What happens if you slide over to your left and shoot from a lower angle?

My truck gets in the way... had to crop it out of that photo.
I'll have to go back up there sometime and give it a shot. Maybe with a fresh snowfall

    Something old, something new

Can you use the ruins to frame the truck?

You will have to shoot with your DSLR to make sure your truck isn't too blue. I know that with be hard with the BBP.

I appreciate the kind words but personally I just feel like I'm not good at teaching. I can talk about stuff but I', kinda feel like I'm more of a show you how to do it rather than teach you how to do it kinda person. Even at work when we have to go to a school or something to show the ambulance I'm the one who will stand back and let whoever I'm working with take the lead. Luckily I've worked with quite a few people who actually teach EMS so it's worked out for me in that way. Maybe I'm just not much of a public speaker and more of the class clown. lol

I feel like I understand some stuff decently but not completely and I'm sure my ways of editing stuff kinda go in a different direction than it probably should. Idk I've just never felt like I'm the person who should be teaching whether that be just not sure of myself or just feel like I don't know enough to answer a question the way it probably should be answered. I'm not really one to candy coat stuff the nice way and just one to throw it right in your face and say this is how I do it, right or wrong but I make it happen and it works for me. :anonymous:
