Those cats all look super pissed. I saw one once.... about 80 yards away in the back yard of my parents house and that was still too close.

Im sure you’ve walked by more than you want to know about if you spend much time out and about.

Not much to worry about unless they’re hungry.

I would have liked to have shot star trails but the full moon messed it up. Then I had some minor surgery on my leg. When you win again pick long exposure again. :) There is a water wheel I know of that would be cool to shoot as well.

I’m sure you’re right. According to NY State DEP “there aren’t any mountain Lions in the area”. Hard for me to believe when I’ve seen them. Supposedly they were introduced to curb coyote population but who knows.

You are very right. Only thing he likes is his brother. Not mean by any means but doesn’t need affection. Anytime a phone/camera is around he’s gone lol.

I had a cat years ago that would solicit affection just to attack and scratch you to the bone. His name was Bo. He was a complete jerk but he was fantastic at keeping chipmunks and moles out of the yard.

I will not put a dog on the ground without one. Especially now that we have more wolves than all the Western States, combined. Always have in my lifetime although we were down to ~1,000 in the 70's. Seconds matter. Thinking with that many dogs a Fenix is out of the question. But for a couple of dogs the Fenix works well instead of breaking out the handheld and carrying a shotgun at the same time. Of course I still carry the Alpha. Either way a GPS collar is worth every penny IMO!

Curious what brand collars you both are using? I don't really take mine out and about like you guys do due to not having the areas to let them really roam free like that. But would be nice to have peace of mind in case they run off at some point at the beach or even just around home.

For your situation did a look around for about an hour or so. Didn't get a warm fuzzy from the reviews of the current residential\consumer GPS systems for dogs. When you need it, you need it and for it to work... AKC has one and the Whistle 3 seems to be about the same. Not something I would trust my dogs life with. Your call and budget, and needs assessment.

I use Garmin. Where I hunt and play there is no cell phone reception and I use a Garmin Spot mini, Fenix, and Alpha for the dog. It is far enough North that I need the Russian sats (Glonas) in addition to the the American Sats. Retired from the Navy 20 years ago and never thought I would be bouncing signals off a Rusky sat...

Started with the Astro which is just the GPS, Garmin still makes them and well advanced over the original ones. Then they bought out Tri Tronics which has e-stim. I used to run both an Astro and Dogtra before that and once the Alpha came out switched to Garmin across the board for convergence. After the trash breaking and hazard avoidance I don't use e-stim except for vibrate after about the age of 2. And use vibration mode when I do after that, by then the dogs understand and I use it for recall only. Unless they are on a porky, snake, etc.

Once your pup gets old and can no longer hear well being able to push a button for vibrate is one of the best features IMO. But also one of the worst. Because the Rainbow Bridge is near and you know it...

I like the Garmin naming convention. If you have a dog you should know what Alpha stands for.

And if you're old enough you know what Astro stands for. In the early 60's it was the dog on the Jetson's carton. No future shock here LOL, and might have to be from the 60-70's to understand that term. From a book written in 1970 about personal perception of "too much change in too short a period of time". I am the technical specialist for the Electronic Content Management Systems of, well I could tell you but would have to kill ya. Unless your pellet pooper does it first LOL :) Damn Project Managers get in the way, yeah caught that too :p And when I retired from the Navy worked for the 2 time President of PMI who was the professor in Western NC that if you wanted to get a Masters or higher in PM had to go through back then.

In your case would still go with the Astro but the new version. Because the pup is worth it.

    Elroy's dog Astro. 1962.
