I’d say find one of the independent Nikon repair places and let them take a look at it. If it’s one of the lower end models it’s probably cheaper to replace in the long run.

I’ve heard good things about that brand as well.

edit: just looked it up on Amazon... now I want it! would be great for throwing on the side of my backpack on a quick bike ride down to the beach to do some shooting

They could get up there in price but even the lower end production are reliable

Found these pretty quick. These are at B&H Photo btw, I used the app and it doesn’t off a link to it.

I actually kinda like the second one better. I like it has the hook under the center section to hang some weight on to further stabilize it. Also looks like a better ball head.

First one is just over your price but it’s carbon fiber. Which may be a tad lighter but I’d be afraid of carbon fiber at that price point. I’m sure that’s why the ballhead only has one adjustment screw instead of one for tension when loose and one to crank it down.

IMO I’d go for the second one of those two. Manfrotto may have something in that price range but what I was seeing didn’t impress me too much.

I wouldn’t even look at the lower end sunpack, velbon or others such as that. But once cry once and you’ll have it for a long time. I spent $270 on mine 5-6 years ago and it’s solid as a rock. I’ve been through numerous low end ones and they suck ($20-70). Go with something with a ballhead and you’ll be glad you did if you’ve never used one before over the old style. They are great!
