    What makes the G2 better? I'm sure it is a better lens overall, but I'm saving myself $1k dollars on it the older model which I'm sure is still good enough?

    A buddy of mine has that lens, in G2, and shoots birds and sells calendars, awesome pictures, most of his pics are hand held, just depends on your settings!!

    I would definitely love to buy the newer version, but at $1400 that's still hitting the wallet pretty hard. Especially as I'm potentially getting a camper shell for the truck in a few weeks, need to keep costs down ha!

    I have the older* version and hand shoot 80%+ with it. I wouldn’t worry if it’s a G1 or G2. Its sharp enough to see bird pupils. That’s good enough for me.
