Weekly Photography Challenge Thread (see first post rules and then the poll at top before entering)

I'll get you a moon shot tonight since it's still almost a full moon and post what I shot it at.

 

Canon 70D. Canon 18-55 lens and Canon 55-250 lens. Tripod and remote operation. ISO 200 seemed best. And.....I forgot to adjust aperture. I need to spend a lot more time getting to know this camera in manual. I've been a lazy photographer since digital came out and I'm wanting to go shoot my Dad's F3 that I inherited.

 

Entry. This is 1 of 2 remaining original canal lock doors used on the Ohio-Erie canal. My county seat had 6 locks in the city itself.

 

The moon is kinda tricky cuz it’s technically day light. If you leave it open too long you’re going to over expose.

 

Had some of that as I played with the ISO and bulb shots. Completely forgot F-Stop. Old cameras it was right there on the lens. Makes it hard to forget.
Just figured out how to adjust through the app as well.

 

ISO 100 f/11 and 1/100.

Can adjust your setting from there but that will be pretty close. Moon is a daylight photo. If anything with that one maybe increase the shutter speed time if needed.

 

70-200 is fine. Just crop it to fill the image. Or you can use a teleconverter with the 70-200 and double it.

 

Oh and manual focus. Don’t even attempt a moon shot with autofocus.

 

Actually I do have a 1.4 on there, makes it a 280, but still feel myself in need of another 100 or so , but true on the crop!!

 

I haven’t taken one with the D800. Need to see how much I can crop one of those.

 

I shot this at ISO100, 300mm, f6.3, 1/400sec back Nov 21, 2018. Then cropped waaaaaayyyy in. NOT AN ENTRY

Moon just came up over the horizon. Obviously a major crop. Taken with a 18-70 Kit Lens. ISO 100, F 5.6, 1/160 sec, Manual Focus

*EDIT* That picture was taken literally as it crested the trees in my neighborhood.

You have to remember that the moon, at night, is being illuminated by the sun. So if you want details of the moon, you need to photograph it as if it were daytime. Any night time settings will over expose it. If you have really good photo editing software, you can push your settings more towards evening settings and pull details with software, but that's a tough balance to get.

 

I use hotel gyms way more often that the gym my apartment complex had. When on the road you always tend to overeat, sit all day in conferences, etc. Gym was the only thing that kept me feeling remotely healthy.
