    You could go over it in a 7 man raft. Might even get lucky enough to ride the backwash for a few seconds! :D

    True, it would be bad if someone inexperienced fell out into the dam/hole. I've kayaked over plenty of low head dams but definitely not suggested for people who don't know how dangerous they are. We set up safety sometimes but if there is a massive backwash safer to just portage. Usually the risk/reward doesn't make sense.

    Hoping to get a good challenge picture tomorrow in the daylight.. a little snow (hopefully) and a decent rapid. Maybe the lighting will be good. Driving 10 hours from NC to AL halfway point is the Nantahala gorge, a super special/ cool area

    Thanks. You are absolutely right about it being a killer several people have lost there lives there. With the storms we had on Christmas eve there was a ton of water moving over the dam.

    I've rafted the New River a couple of times and his picture reminded me of a couple of rapids/small waterfalls.
