Monte and I shoot with the 60d  Just use the webz and youtube before you resort to classes unless you want to. Main thing is just get out and shoot, often too so you can compare and remember what you did.

IMHO the only way to learn is to shoot and post your photos on forums to seek criticism

    Suggestion:

Prior forum I was on ran contests similar to this and this process seemed to work.

Entries had to be PMed to the person in charge. At the appointed time, that person would create a post with a poll. Each shot would be given a number. That poll would remain active for however long to vote...let's say three days. At the end of the three days, it was announced who took the winning photo. This way, the only person who KNOWS who took each photo is the person running the contest, it keeps things democratic. Could work here, too.

The challenge is posted and pictures submitted, challenger posts images by number (no names) with poll on Sunday. Poll closes on Wednesday and winner is chosen. Winner posts new challenge on Thursday. etc...

    Just an idea.

i need to start carrying a better camera around with me........

does a one day old shot count as archived? i got a decent sunset shot last night, considering the equipment (or lack there of) that i was dealing with.

I'm in. So to clarify, first challenge is a sunset this weekend?

Then each weekend after a new one will be due, say Sunday evening?

yea i thought about that..but i have an idea i think that'll work good unless this explodes and we gt more then 20 people doing it.

For this i thought of the person that "won" the challege gets to pick a winner. We don't really have anything to gain from winning..haha so it'll keep it pretty loose.

So for instance. Sconniehailer started this weeks challege. He can post a photo and so can we all. But he picks his favorite for the "winner". He can't pick himself. Then the "winner" gets to come up with a new challege. and it repeats. Keeps it simple..

but i mean..if people WANT to get that into it. Id be glad to do the PM thing and such...

But i figured would be a small group anyways..

    Up to everyone else!

Yep! Pretty much. Every weekend will be a new challege.

The whole point of this is to push everyone's boundaries and to make us try new stuff..and having a dead line makes it fun :p haha but other then that..not high stakes or anything. Just a fun thing for everyone to learn from.

I guess i should ask too, marc i know you wanted everyone to post the meta data from the shot. Still want to do that?

The more rules there are the less it is personal art IMO. ha Keep it to a topic each week, like "Light and Motion" or "Sunset" or whatever. Obviously it would be nice to know some metadata with it but in the end that's just for curious photog types who want to know how they got the shot, it doesn't make the photo any better.

Yea pretty much..don't want too many rules..or the whole fun of it goes out the window.

and that'll be optional i guess for the photographer to post and what not.

Greetings all.. This sounds like a great motivator to keep me shooting every week.. so I'm In!

I was taking part in a similar weekly challenge on another forum where the "moderators" posted the Weekly Challenge and then selected the "Winning Photo" each week, so I like the idea of electing each weeks winner as the temporary/weekly moderator.
There was a set "start" & "finish" day each week, so as long as the photo was taken during that week is was eligible...all we need to do is choose those parameters..?

The metadata was VERY helpful for me when taking part in these as it helped me understand what the Photographer and Camera where doing to capture the specific shot.. just my $0.02

Whatever y'all decide...I look forward to it!! :D

    Cheers,
    Marcelo

welcome! and yes! whole point is to make us go out and shoot :p haha

I'll post my meta data for my shot when i do..figure why not?

I also kinda like the weekly "winner" Chooser maker of the the challenge..clean easy way to do it..any one really against it?? Or we just gonna do good ole fashion democratic voting within this thread?
