You should contribute to the weekly challenges anyways. That's how you get better. You take more pictures. Some guys come up with really good challenges that push you to your limits and make you a better photographer.

I recommend buying the book "Understanding Exposure" there's a link in the products discussed section at the bottom of this page. It helped me a bunch.

Welcome. I agree that you should try the challenges when you can. The challenge is pretty low key and almost free of criticism unless advice is requested. I think we are all here to have fun and use the challenge to make us get out and take some pictures.

Post up whatever you take for the challenge. That's what makes this thread so cool. It makes you experiment with different shooting styles and settings.

As far as shutter speed goes. I found this chart

    And this chart

I still get confused on which direction to go with Aperture haha. But the great thing about digital is you're not wasting film.

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert. There are guys in here with a lot more knowledge than I. Just adding my $0.02

Nice! I like those images posted, I'm saving to my phone. I still get confused with aperture and if I need to go higher or lower ha! I need to go take some more pics... They got the US Open (surfing) down at the pier this week, I may have to bike down and take a few shots of the comp

I screw up aperture every single time I tell ya! Those surfing shots would be cool to see! Go!

Don’t be afraid to post your photo’s in here. If you do and want some opinions on how to improve ask. You’ll learn pretty quick doing the challenges and asking opinions on what you can do to make your photo’s better. Sometimes it’s just something simple you can do that you just don’t know about. No one here is going to criticize your photo’s, we’re all here to learn. Sometimes the challenges may seem hard or advanced but give it a try anyway and you’ll learn something. We all have posted a photo we’re not the most proud of before. But someone has spoken up and helped us learn what we did wrong or what we could have changed to make it a better photo. So jump in and we’ll see your entry next week, ok?

Welcome to the thread and good to have you here Raymond!

Besides all that I think the biggest challenge in it self is beating these other jokers to finally win one of these damn things. Haha

Then you can name a challenge of your own choosing. Something that you either like of want to try and challenge yourself on that’s something new to you. Just because you can’t enter the week you are the judge doesn’t mean you can’t participate too.

This is my motivation. I just always forget to capture something for them. Got a lot of mental photos that are amazing!

Anyone know how to fix a Nikon?

Forgot about this thread, I'll grab the model info when I get home.

Issue is the screen says "error". Won't take a picture, outside warranty, no amount of resets has worked so its sat in a box for over a year.
