Yeah, I'm using LR 4 on disc. Not fond of the subscription format either. 4 works for me so no need to update. I do big editing, HDR's and sharpening in Photoshop. I also have the Nik Efex Pro suite running in PS.

High Dynamic Range. You take 2 photos under exposed, one normal exposure and 2 over exposed (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) then combine them in Photoshop into one photo. You get the full dynamic range of the image that way. You get the details in the shadows and the highlights along with the regular. Works when you have a photo you need details in all the areas with. Or you want something to really pop with some crazy lighting.

This was a nighttime one I did when I got my D800. I didn't want to get noise in the dark areas of the photo from a long exposure and the traffic wasn't exactly working for me since it was around midnight. Mounted it on a tripod and took them as the traffic allowed.

Took that from the balcony of the casino I was staying at. lol

I spent the next few hours walking around outside taking photo's. That was the only one I liked from the whole night.

SMH. I get it now. You just want me to spend money. First I have to get a DSLR and then I have to get Photoshop, just to be on your level. :facepalm:My wallet hates you.

Here's something neat you can do with a DSLR or film too.

You can use a long exposure to make people disappear. This was taken on the riverwalk in Savannah which is pretty crowded at night with the bars down there and people just walking around. If you look close in the photo you can see the ghost images of people in there. As long as they are moving they won't show up in the photo. If someone stands still for long then they'll be a transparent person in the photo. Ha!

Look close along the wall of the hotel. You can see the smear of them walking through there. You won't do that with a phone.

No, just showing you how much more you can do with a camera that works better than a phone.

I read somewhere that there is a setting in PS where you can take multiple photos, and something with using layers and another function, PS will take out everything in the photo that is different. Maybe? :notsure: I see instructions for it every once in awhile on Imgur. Have you ever done that before?

You can set the camera on a tripod and not move it. Take multiple photo's with a remote and put yourself all over the photo. You use layers and I believe it's a transparency brush to do that. Same thing as what you're talking about you just erase them to the image underneath that doesn't have them in it. I haven't done it but have been wanting to try it for quite a while.

Meh, I do this for myself and no one else. No need for sunshine up my ass. I'm not much of one to show off but I like to help people learn new stuff that I've done and found pretty cool to do. I'll get on kicks sometimes looking for new stuff to do, the more complicated it is the more I like trying it. I bought my first camera in 1984 with change left over from my lunch money. It can get boring doing the same thing all the time for 34 years.

I just read a blog post and you use use File->Scripts->Statistics. Then set your stack mode as Median and load your multiple photos. Then for any ghost limbs or people, you just use the Spot Healing Brush or Clone Stamp Tool.

I've never messed with the scripts I don't believe. I know for a fact I've never used the statistics in PS. Most of the advanced stuff in PS I have to google how to do it again because I just don't use those features enough to remember them. I saw one guy take a night photo and turned it into a daytime photo because the place was crowded during the day and he couldn't get a shot without people in it. lol

There's a lot of people out there that have figured out some really cool stuff to do with PS. I wish I knew 1/8 of what they know with it. I added using Illustrator a few years ago for drawings for my patches. All that has done is make me forget even more and throughly confuse me even more when I'm trying to do something in Illustrator. If all the Adobe programs were more similar it would be nicer working with all of them but sadly that's not true. Now it takes me even longer to use all of the programs and figure out what I'm trying to do.

I guess you can say I know a little about a lot. lol

I guess now you know why when this thread died out I picked it up to keep it going. I'm still learning too. I just stay busy with so much now I don't have a lot of time to get out and shoot like I used to. Before I'd never miss a weekly challenge but even if I can't participate I'd at least like to keep this going for everyone else. There's a lot of great photographers on here that everyone can learn techniques from. I have and I'd like to see everyone on here learn something too. You open a whole new world to yourself with a dslr and there is so much you can do with them. Start wherever you can, you don't have the best camera body to get started. Get what you can best afford to start out and learn. Eventually you'll outgrow that body and want something that does more. You'll learn as you go which direction that will take you with what to upgrade to. Some people like action sports, some like taking portraits. I like doing low light photo's so a FF camera was the direction I took. I noticed myself also going into the menu's to change settings all the time. So I looked for a camera that had buttons on the camera where I could get to those settings quicker without having to go into the menu. The main thing is get something and start shooting and trying things. You'll be surprised what you can do with them. One day you'll be out shooting and something will click and you'll understand something you've read and read about but finally realized how when you do it one day by accident and it clicks inside. You can do a lot with a cheap body and kit lenses. Buy what you can when you can, if you start too big it will make it harder on you to learn. Ie don't buy a pro body to learn on, there's too much shit on there to confuse you.

Can we get @tcBob to make @medic2230 the new OP of this thread? It'd be nice to have an updated OP each week with the challenge and not have to skim through pages upon pages of BS (although, these last few pages have been very helpful and insightful BS, but still BS).
