So long story short wanting to know if I were to put about 1000lbs of welding equipment in the bed of the truck and do an add a leaf and E rated tires would the axle and frame be able to support that weight over time? Any input is greatly appreciated

Thats nearing the limit for payload, do you have a long box or short box?

The add a leaf is almost necessary, it would sag big time and ruin the springs quickly.

I would personally want a full sized truck with a steel bed made for that much weight.

People put 1000+ lbs of “overland” gear on their truck no problem.

personally I’d replace the entire leaf pack

Bishop it is a long box and I had a welding rig RAM 3500 custom bed it got stolen and I have my tacoma and my profession is a Certified mobile welder and having to buy all equipment again after it being stolen I cant get a new truck just yet and want to use the toyota as the temporary until I can get a another 1 ton just unsure on the weight capacity of the axle and frame I plan on going E rated tires and add a leaf and Shell mentioned above possibly replacing the whole leaf pack

Another problem with with carrying a lot of weight is the box itself. Eventually where the bed mounts to the frame will wear through the fiberglass bed.

I would go with Firestone Airbags instead of heavy duty leaf springs. You say it temporary and once you remove the welding equipment your truck will ride like shit with the HD leaf springs unloaded.

Just replace the springs with HD and be prepared to swap back to stock when you have a replacement truck. You might want to upgrade the rear shocks but you could wait and see what the ride is like. Take care of how you drive and you'll be fine.

i had 800-1k lbs of topsoil in the bed last weekend, i wouldn't wanna drive like that for any extended period of time man. that said, all ive got on the rear is a 1in lift block. (gasp)

sorry about your work rig, that sucks.

If you do overload your Tacoma temporarily, drive very slow and carefully.

I think the payload on these trucks is 1,100lbs for the long bed, double cab and 4x4. Any possibility of doing a custom aluminum flatbed type of thing? At the very least E rated tires, AAL and airbags I would think. And be prepared to drive in S4 and drive slow.

Check your door threshold sticker. The one with your tire pressure recommendations has the allowable cargo rating. God bless you friend. Justice will be administered in due time.

    I definitely prefer airbags myself.
I would never suggest you put ~2.3k in the bed (as this greatly exceeds the rated capability of the truck) but if you did it might look something like this (with airbags).
